Cable Sutra - Whisper Power Cord, Common Ground Cables

I have been looking at a knurled screw with a flat "washer"on the inside of the collar. Something wide enough to not damage the cable and enough surface are to hold the collar in place.

Imagine a modified (shortened) version of an ez-lock going through the collar, that a screw threaded into it with a knurled head on the outside a flat washer fitting on the inside

All very formulative at the moment.

There are days I am grateful I spent so years in R&D and working in the field deploying solutions. It helps imagining what’s possible.

I still like the idea of a wood collar. It will look awesome and I can hinge it for retrofit.

Duncan,

I am glad you finally tried Whisper Elite the tuning ring. They also do good things on the Whisper.

Now you gotta do the Audio Magic M-1 Beeswax on the P-10. It helps bring out details of background bery unobtrusively not in your face but more there. That is my current tweak of the week.

You can then start offering a curated system level tweak package. For your UK customers with fuses.

If you want a true OMG moment tell Darren to loan you a P20 to use where the p10 is I just upgraded to the P20 from the P10 and it wasn’t subtle!

Maybe you can use a Velcro cable tie to secure the tuning ring.

I am looking forward for the “final” version of Whisper Elite, but it better does not come with the two-ton metal ring that vkennedy61 suggested. I will need some audio concrete-block chair footing to support that.

I think I suggested these at one point:

I like your PVC ring idea (with a nice color), or a light diamond ring. Your wife can design a nice one for you :slightly_smiling_face:

PVC has a lot of possibilities. It can be sanded, primed, sanded (again) and then sprayed for a very nice and durable finish. PVC can also be sanded to give it some tooth and then it could be wrapped like they do cars. With wrapping the sky is the limit for dressing the rings up. I have contacted a local auto body shop and they were very willing to try it.

I have a scuffed up pair of Hall Marimba’s that used to do shop duties that I am thinking about getting wrapped as well. I was thinking about a metallic Tangerine.

If you haven’t thought about wrapping:

Artistic mind plus a great handyman skill gives you a serious benefit in this crazy audio la-la land. You are on to something in this ring business, I think. It surely beats my shipping tape method.

I choose the black color for my car and now I realize it was a mistake. So, I am going to read your car wrapper article; after I am finishing Luca’s link of Italian trip in Google.

Today’s final idea for the rings:

I just finished chatting up with a master upholsterer. If we construct the ring from a reasonably heavy upholstery fabric we could use welting (the material you frequently see on the edges of upholstered couch cushions and arms) to form two channels on the inside of the ring. The ring itself would use the same type of hook and eyes that are typically used in bras to close it into a ring. Basically opened up it would look like a rectangle which you would wrap around a cable and close it with the hooks. We talked about Velcro, but it’s not nearly as nice looking and you’ll see either the hook or loop side of the velcro on smaller cables. My goal would to be to make something that you wouldn’t mind putting on a $XXXX cable.

The hooks could be spaced in rows to create a Small, Medium and Large ring. Depending on the size of ring, the end user would slide in the proper length of the blocking material under the two side channels formed with the welt.

The welt can be constructed with a pliable stiffening rod inside the fold of the welt to help keep the shape of the ring. Looking at the pic below there would be welt on both sides of the rectangular material forming the channel.

I still need to work out how to keep the ring from moving.

You heard it here first!

Well, I wrote something nice to reply, but it is better if I deleted it.

You have to channel your youth when you first encountered this diabolical mechanism.

I am sure that was a reply :joy: to my first one.

Yup. I had the same thought while discussing it. Fumbling hands of youth.

Stiffening rod and bra hooks. Just what this thread needs given a steamy start.

Perhaps the front clasp and soft silk for old geezer hands could be an option. Duncan’s was easier access like a tube top double elastic

Once we get past the zipper down the the tuning ring fun just’s beginning unless the button doesn’t cooperate.
