How smart this opportunity is, I envy you. There is no this type of habit here. If I entered a restaurant with my favorite bottle of wine, the sommelier would refuse to serve it to my table, rather offended and annoyed and perhaps even calling me rude.
On the other hand, doing so I discovered some new delightful wines (amongst a lot of meh and bad ones).
After the coffee thread, don’t want to start a new “wine at the restaurant” conversation, sorry. Enjoy your trip to japan, lots of audiophile brands to discover there!
Back to music, boxes, grounding… and oh… am just sticking a few funny buttons to the walls now!
I hope, thanks! And after another year, let me thank you, Elk, for your commitment to keeping this forum as polite and respectful as possible! Well done! With a few other rare exceptions (WTB) I find the bickering between audiophiles on the vast majority of forums embarrassing.
Interesting to know if they work at all! I have saved hundreds of wine corks but no one in the house will allow me to use them for wall decoration.
With in-laws we always order a bottle of white, then open mine later (red). The rule is do not bring wine the restaurants are selling, and I always bring older wine (15 years plus is my definition) that I know they do not have. The sommelier understands I know wines and would always bring out a decanter to let the wine breath. I will ask for “correct” wine glasses for the old red too. We got better service usually because they thought I was somebody.
I hate to admit that they work. I’m using the first pack of 5 pieces on the front wall, next days I’m going to add other 2 packs, positioned as recommended by the manufacturer. Your wife should easily approve them, they are almost invisible!
These Funny Buttons (Al’s copyright) and the Black Box have all my attention, I’ll post my thoughts within a few days.
I hate to hear those Voodoo tricks work because I am a sucker for them. I added some snake oil into my morning coffee, and I swear it tasted better than the one that came out of $3k grinder, even from the monkey poop beans!
I turned on the system, but I cannot start any music yet because the rest of the family are still asleep. So, what did I do? I plugged P15 into Puritan and let the system warm up for another hour. I hope the sound sucks!
This is a good thread with a lot of knowledge and a lot of helpful people helping each other out to the next “geek tweak level”
I’m presently trying out “a home made/designed newly built fake leather poach… sand filled… anti vibration… to put on the equipment”… oval-snake…
Visual appearance is good enough to place them visible… but measurements was not perfect.
The first one was intended for the dac but it could not fit the space (5 mm to much height). Was placed on amp and transport instead to good success…
A bit of redesigning will be done, then 7 more to build and then at last an attempt to build a 43 cm sand filled plate to have as a layer in he rack.
Still 40 kg of sand covering a table here… so I better leave this forum and get back to buliding those sand filled absorbers.
I do not expect all of them to improve, especially as I’ve got so many different kind of materials, absorbers, spikes, racks of home made and well known products… but I do think I will learn something when building them my self. Makes me analyze other designs a bit more…
One odd thing with P15 in PSM-156 is that the display shows that THD is now 4.4% (normally it is under 2% in the morning), and the distortion is down to .5% (normally it is between 1% to 2%). Does yours change at all?
I am listening to music now, but the Roomba vacuums are on for both upstairs and downstairs at the same time. So, no serious listening yet. So far the sound does not suck, but it is different. I can tell better later.
THD is 2.2 (usual range 2-2.7 depending on time and days). Voltage in is 229, usual range. 228-230.
Apparently the same old values.
Have your M1200s plugged into the Puritan with the MK II?
How I’d like if the display could show also the quality of the earth (like some meters) and the presence/value of DC. IN and OUT.
This is quite different from my system as the THD in mine jumped more than double yet the output THD is lower. MK2 and M1200 are still plugged into Puritan, the rest are with P15 as usual.
The sound is dead quiet and super clean so I can see you may prefer it. However, in mine the sound is a bit flat (and I do not mean soundstage), and it lacks a bit spark/vividness that only PSA power plant can do. I heard this even with Roomba running around me.
I will go back soon since the THD is much higher, and I am worried that P15 is working too hard now.
With P15 plugged into the wall, THD in is down to 1.2% and THD out is down to .1%. I was wrong about output THD being lower, .5% is five times higher than .1% I am getting now so both THD in and out are lower with P15 into wall. I do not know why in your system the THD has hardly changed where mine is more than three times higher. Remarkably interesting and it is possible you hear better sound with P20 in Puritan too. I hear better sound with them separated.
Either Puritan PSM-156 plus GM City took a long time to break in, or there are some other parts of my system that have not done with break in yet (Zenwave Silver cord w/ Furutech plugs?). For whatever reason, I played a few SACDs that I have not heard of for a while, and the system for sure sounded better than a few weeks ago. If it is on the streaming side that makes more sense, but I am playing discs.
I had the APS mod done to MK2 last Sept. And when it was first introduced into the system the bottom of it was hot (for at least the first three months). Now it is barely warm. So, the transformers needed a long break in time, that’s one contribution I guess.
Or the Puritan/P15 combo increasingly suits me better now.
I’m ok, thanks, Donald! Next Monday I’ll be back at work, so last days of music for me… it’s a pain!
I’m keeping plugged the P20 to the Puritan for a while, with DAC+PhoenixNET+Sean Jacobs PSU plugged to the Puritan, too. It means that the P20 is feeding just the Statement (and analog rig that is actually unused).
Amplification and subs directly into the wall, where I’m seriously evaluating a second Puritan…
It is a puzzle that your P20 plugged into Puritan works fine. My P15 gave me a huge protest by raising THD four times higher.
I may try plugging one or two switches into PSM-156 to see if that’s a better option, that’s the only one I have not tried yet. This type of change seems to take a day or more to sound good, or it takes that much time for my brain to adjust. They do alter the sound quite a bit.
I can confirm you 228V IN vs 230V OUT - 2,6%THD IN vs 0,1% THD OUT. If plugged to the wall I get pretty the same results.
2,2-2,8% THD IN is the range since years.
If using a meter (the cheap ones from Amazon) it seems that the outlets of the P20 are more polluted than the wall sockets (dedicated).
