Cleanwave Function on Power Plant

@jamesh - Do you know if the cleanwave on the Stellar PP is the same as the cleanwave on the other PPs?

I am asking because I know that the Stellar PP only has the five second cleanwave function for each push of the button, while other PP like the P12 have a 60 second option for cleanwave. Is that 60 second cycle the same as if I pushed cleanwave on my Stellar PP 12 successive times? Or is the cleanwave on the Stellar PP stronger, so I don’t need to run it for 60 seconds?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that the CW in all of the PowerPlants is the same strength. If you were to press the P3’s a number of times, you’d essentially be doing an extended one. I’m with Ron and have never really bothered with it. It’s had no impact from what I can tell so I haven’t used it in either one of my systems in years.

Running clean wave too often can cause a butterfly to flap its wings in Peking, and then all hell breaks loose

This one of those “try and compare for yourself on your system” things. Even if one of us expert/genius types makes a proclamation, it cannot apply across the board to everyone and everyone’s systems. Press away, and let us know your findings to add to our collective database👍🏼

Perhaps 4-6 times a year.

I run CleanWave for a minute once a month, but I could never feel or hear a difference. I run Cardas Frequency Sweep record once a month and hear good results. It benefits not only the cartridge & phono preamp, but also improves the sound of my preamp, power amps, and speakers.

Can I ask those of you who hear difference using Cleanwave to share what specific differences you hear when using it?

I am asking because sometimes I find that it subtly clears up the highs and mids. If I need clarity in the highs and mids, 5 seconds of Cleanwave usually restores it nicely.

Other times, if the sound is a bit digital or forward sounding, 5 seconds of Cleanwave seems to make the music sound more analog, more relaxed.

Using clean wave…transients are clearer sharper better defined
soundstage dimensionality imaging improves …

Run clean wave at the start of each listening session and at
time at the conclusion of an album before listening to another.

Thanks, David.

When you run cleanwave before each listening session, do you run the 5 second cycle or the 60 second cycle?

And when you run it before listening to an album, after listening to an album, do you run the 5 second cycle?

There is a 60 second clean option? And if so, why?

I prefer the 60 second clean option…to my fussy ears better than
the 10 second option…my power amps’ power transformer is huge…
may take more clean time due to size…just my .02 but that is why
I use the 60 second option…Paul put both of those there for our
convenience and choices…

I too use the 60 second. I have big transformers on my hugely powerful 3 watt per channel Monoblocks!

I find that the difference using Clean Wave a few times a day is subtle, but digital seems less “digital” when I remember to run the function.

Just goes to show from giant sized beautiful eeney teeny amps
to beautiful prodigious giants…

They all need clean wave…in large doses…

Kinda like cleani g the computer cache…

Thanks for clarifying, David and @lonson!

I have to say I am curious why my Stellar Power Plant only offers the 5 second Cleanwave cycle. It seems like it would have been easy for them to include it.

Good question for the whizkid…

Not having more than 5 sec soesn’t preclude your applying repeated
uses of the 5 second treatment…

They do have large power transformers though! Take a long time to dust, let alone clean!

Love your amps…and the must definetly put a big ole smile on your face…

But keeping the glass sparkling without hurting the print logo on the tubes…
well dat’s another story…the appearance suggests you are well practiced…

They look really nice…

Thanks for sharing…

Actually I’m not that fastidious with my equipment, and yes one good excuse is taking care of the print on the tubes! That is actually the manufacturer’s professional photo. I don’t have a camera because I take terrible pictures, I just flat gave up.

I love these amps. They are like chameleons, they can become so many different amps with their flexibility and the flexiblitiy of the other components in my system. And. . . how many amps have tube voltage regulation seperately for the input and the output tubes? Rolling those tubes is a lot of fun.

Agreed on the fun of tube rolling…( can be very $$$$)
Me knows having been there…

However my wonderful power amp has a a separate input
voltage supply that keeps the input voltage 10 v above the
input voltage supply rail…will never sag…even at full song…
Running first 12 watts pure class A then on up to 400 watts
class AB…in beautiful seamless operation…sounds like tubes…
