Cleanwave Function on Power Plant

What, no sag? Who would want that! LOL

I’m sure it’s great. There are many pathways to audio happiness. Being happy with our systems is what it is all about!

It helps with the paunch you know?

Sure, I definitely can apply repeated use of the 5 second cycle, but I have yet to need to press it more than three times in a row to get good, clean sound. I suspect that not all 5 second cycles are created equal on Power Plants.

My only issue is that I need to use the 5 second cycle more often than I would like to. One or two presses and I am good for a half hour or so, then I need to do it again.

I sent Paul a message to get clarification on this stuff, so I am hoping he writes back.

George …with your P3 if you click the clean wave function
does that change the clean wave function run time at all…
in all the other power plants you first get 5 sec then on a second click
and then 60 sec shows on the screen…do you not get that response with
your P3?

If not contact jamesh…he may have a solution…

Best wishes

No on the stellar power plant there is only the 5 second cycle and there is no screen. In order to get more than 5 seconds you have to press the button again. I do believe as I said above that this 5 second cycle is stronger or more efficient than on other models because it would seem silly to have to press the button 12 times in succession. Also as I said above I have yet to need to press the button more than 3 times in succession usually I only have to press it once.

Hey George give a shout out to jamesh…to get your answers…
he may know of something to help get more run time with
your clean wave function

I asked jamesh in another thread. He doesn’t use cleanwave.

He may have a solution…whether or not he uses clean wave…

The other soluion is trade up your P3 for A P12…that would answer that
part anyway…

Best wishes

He answered what he could already. The remaining questions I posted here. And no way I’m buying a bigger PP. :yum:

Hi lonson! Happy new year!

I have a new amplifier (Hegel H390) and have been burning it in over the last few weeks. I have found that cleanwave does exactly as you described. It adds an ease to the sound. Whenever I feel the sound getting a bit harsh or forward sounding in the mids and highs, I run it for 5 seconds and it usually relaxes the sound nicely. At times I need to run it for 15-20 seconds, but rarely for more time than that.

it’s good to know that there’s a 60 second clean wave option on my P15. For the first time ever I ran a 60 second and wow, there’s definitely an improvement on clarity and an easing effect on my system. I guess I will run 60 second cleanwave from now on.

Glad to hear that you found running clean wave did indeed improve your sound…

I’ve recommended the Clean function on numerous threads (for my active speaker system).

My pair of P10s power:

  • a Wyred4Sound LPS to drive various 9V reclockers
  • a DEQX digital crossover - provides three S/PDIF coax outputs (digitally crossed over and EQd)
  • Three Directstream dacs feeding balanced outputs to:
  • two BHK250s (for mid and treble)
  • one Crown CE4000 for bass

After an hour of use I have no option but to run the Clean function for two minutes in order to get the system sounding good again.

It sounds really clean with great high frequencies, has great attack, has very clean bass and a very stable central image for an hour or so after the two minute clean.

If I don’t run it that often the system starts to sound hard and lacking high frequency energy and the central image won’t be well located.

[the digital front end that feeds the DEQX crossover is usually a Melco server sending CD rips via a Chord M-Scaler to upscale to 88.2/24 which then goes via a Wyred4Sound Remedy reclocker to feed 96/24 to the crossover. These are powered from a Stellar P3 which I don’t bother to run the clean function on. I have other inputs to the DEQX crossover, e.g. USB from my computer and analogue inputs to the ADC within the crossover from my AVR and my phonostage].

Being active there are no passive components between the amp outputs and the large PMC drivers and any change in the system is readily noticeable.

If for some reason I don’t do a clean after a couple of minutes I might need to run the clean function for four minutes. I don’t leave everything in standby and try to remember to run clean for a couple of minutes before I power things down (if I don’t do that the system might sound harsh when I next use it).

Cool. Seems it is system dependent. It’s a neat “function”. . . glad you get to use it with the new amp.

Anyone else notice that they need to run cleanwave more often when they have new gear?

Yeah, it’s all those new sharp edges that get knocked off and need to be cleaned out. Sorry, I’m not helping much, am I?

I run it with my Stellar P3 occasionally, just because it’s there, but to be honest, I’ve never heard a difference. Could be beyond the resolving ability of the rest of the system, who knows?

I like the simile.

Hey GeorgeP

New equipment may need a shot of clean wave to clear out any
residual “gaussing” from manufacture…I did that with a new pre and
it seemed to waken it up some.

in general though all gear in my system will benefit from clean wave…
prior to a listening session and even after an hour or so…clarity and focus
improve…

Hope this helps

Paul once wrote on these forums that for a spell he was hitting clean wave in between songs!

I do it before a listening session and sometimes during sessions. Usually a minute before, and then the 5 seconds during.
