Climate Change

I think the damage will be there for time to come, but at least we can reduce our damage going forward.

I’m not one that subscribes to veganism as a way forward, to me that’s quite extremist in the other direction and it’s quite frankly not natural, we are omnivores, but I do subscribe to the needless overfarming that we currently do whereby we sacrifice entire environments for the sake of raising cattle for a minority population where waste is significant, there’s just no need for that.

My view is to return to local farming and local produce, Australia does incredibly well at this. It’s far more sustainable.

I hate to be the cynic but the answer to your question is Politics and Virtue Signaling.

When you hate it - why do you do it then

Narbooty - I find the “ignore” thing useful.

Michael,

I’m not sure if you’re implying that I should ignore people or if you’re planning on ignoring me

lol ----
Just “ignore” RonP…

The two best things I’ve been told about climate change are:

  1. It would not be the Soviet Union which brings down the US but rather environmental pollution. (7th grade teacher in 1986, during the Cold War)

  2. An analogy, climate change deniers are similar in spirit and motivation to those who denied smoking causes cancer. The tabacco industry deniers have been replaced with the fossil fuel industry.

It’s a violent experience. Especially when sleeping below sea level. It’s constantly noisy lol. Not all people can handle it emotionally. The cool thing is that you do not feel the waves when it storms. Here I am in the ice lol

Holly icebergs batman.

Here’s a 6 episode series on Discovery that hooked us during the Covid boredom:

To raise awareness about climate change, a bats**t crazy Swiss dude (Clemens Gabriel Oestreich) sails the NW Passage west to east (the hard way, apparently) to plant an Earth Flag at the northernmost point ever reached by a sailing vessel.

Whatever your convictions may be about climate change, you have to give this guy props. More here:

The world’s largest wind farm

2020 - The 200th anniversary of H.C. Ørsted’s discovery of electromagnetism

Facts about wind in Denmark

In Denmark, there are more than 4,000 wind turbines on land and 500 at sea. With the energy agreement from 2018, a unanimous parliament made a wish that Denmark should continue to expand with wind energy on land and at sea in the future. Despite the fact that the number of wind turbines on land is expected to fall by about 50 per cent. By 2030, the production of green electricity from onshore wind turbines is expected to increase by more than 50 per cent. in the same period.

At sea, a number of offshore wind farms are under design or establishment. The energy agreement stipulates that three large-scale offshore wind farms of at least 800 MW each must be built.

The Danish wind turbines covered in 2019, which corresponds to 46.9 percent of Danish electricity consumption. 2017 has thus been beaten by the stick as a record year. In 2017, wind energy covered 43.4 percent of electricity consumption, while the figure in 2018 was 40.7 percent, which was partly due to 2018 being a bad wind year.

  • 2019 looks to be an average wind year, but Horns Rev 3 of 407 MW was connected to the electricity grid, and therefore we now see a big leap forward in the production of green power from wind turbines, says Jan Hylleberg, CEO of Wind Denmark.

  • It is really gratifying, and we are fast approaching a milestone where wind turbines cover half of our electricity consumption on average. I expect this to happen during 2020 or at the latest in 2021, when the next offshore wind farm Krigers Flak of 600 MW is expected to go into operation.

The total production from the Danish wind turbines was 16.0 TWh against 13.9 TWh in 2018, ie. an increase of 15 percent. The previous record for the annual energy production from the wind turbines in Denmark is from 2017, when energy production reached 14.8 TWh.

Here some private photos from the North Sea. Where I occasionally visit. Some of the ships that keep the turbines in order and at the same time Hotel ship for the craftsmen. We also fly in helicopters from Esbjerg Denmark to the fields

Wind turbines Esbjerg - Denmark
Some of the world’s largest wind turbines with a total height of 200 meters are located at Esbjerg. The wind turbines have an output of 8 MW and are supplied by MHI Vestas. The wind turbines are 200 meters high, have a wingspan of 164 meters and can together produce electricity for 18,000 Danish households.

Two men on dog sled 1200 km. ( SIRIUS SLEDGE PATROL)

The Sirius Dog Sled Patrol (Danish: Slædepatruljen Sirius) is an elite unit of the Danish Navy which is tasked with long-range reconnaissance patrolling in the Arctic wilderness of northern and eastern Greenland. The purpose of the unit is to maintain Danish sovereignty and police its area of responsibility. It was founded in 1941 to prevent the presence of German troops in Greenland. The Danish Crown Prince Frederik served in the Sirius Patrol and in the Frømandskorpset (Navy seal), a special forces unit of the Danish Navy. A sledge team, ie. Two men and 12 dogs can be on a continuous sledge trip for up to 4-5 months, during which they meet other people just a few times. The sledge patrol Sirius is one of the Armed Forces’ three special forces. The other two are Jægerkorpset and Frømandskorpset. The three elite forces are different, but all require exceptional physical and mental strength.

It is difficult to appreciate the size of large wind turbines unless you see them in person. They are massive.

You are completely right…

When it comes to wind energy, the top two wind energy producing countries are China and the U.S.

We love technology … so feel free to share your countries’ technology etc … then we will learn a lot about your countries… preferably with links of facilities etc.

The big question is how large a share of your total energy consumption is Green Energy?
