So, caught that video with Paul describing why you should remove the grills from your speakers.
I’ve been playing my FR5s with the grills on as my wife likes how they look better that way. I removed the grills thinking, I’m not really going to notice a difference. I mean, how could I ?
Wow…what a difference is all I can say. The soundstage came more into focus and there just feels like more of an attack and an overall liveliness to the music.
My modest rig of Eversole DMP-A6 > Stellar Strata MK1 > FR5s just makes me smile everyday. So, I had to take a moment to say, thank you PS Audio. That includes @Chris_Brunhaver, @Paul, @scottm (your Sprout started all of this!) and anyone who was involved with bringing the Stellar Strata into existence.
Many of us should thank them every day (just as some seem to diss them every day, we need to restore the balance!)
My system is a wonderful blend of four excellent companies’ products: PS Audio, Decware High Fidelity Engineering, Verafi Audio, and VooDoo Cable. So glad to be enjoying them all!
I have never been a fan of speaker grills. Not only do most deteriorate the sound but if they get close to the floor and you have cats you have just provided them their new favorite scratching post.
Cats! Lol. Even pups can be hazardous to I suppose. (Even bunnies as well i hear)
I like the protection aspect and with a magnetic mount, they are off or on in an instant. I’m at the point now I just leave em on. I guess I should do a A/B test now that I’m thinking about it.
I’ve been impressed with all the PS Audio gear I’ve tried—mostly from the Stellar line—but the real standout, and the one I’m most thankful for, is the little Sprout100. There’s nothing else like it. And the FR5s? An absolute dream of a speaker. Thank you PS Audio.
I’d always thought of sharing a few words about PS Audio’s service. Back in January, I had to send in my PerfectWave SACD transport for diagnosis/repair because discs wouldn’t load randomly. The entire experience was very pleasant and timely—special thanks to Delia Lynch, who was a real pleasure to work with.
Even though the unit was out of warranty, the repair charges were minimal, and the transport has been flawless since. For me, this is my end-game SACD transport.
Now I may need to send in my BHK Signature preamp, which occasionally freezes in standby mode and requires a full reboot back to factory settings. A bit of a pain—my workaround has been to switch it off from the back after each session.
All said, I truly appreciate PS Audio—not only for their service, but also for being the company that first introduced me to the world of high-end hi-fi.
Add Octave Records to the list things to be thankful for. I don’t have any PSA gear in the chain at the moment, but I know playing an Octave release will bring out the best in my modest system.
