2.3.0 Firmware here also
Itās the FPGA firmware version number of interest. The symptoms match the 172 release, the one I thought was released was the 173 release: You need to scroll down on the version screen to see the FPGA firmware release number (and name.)
I kind of hope PSA stops shipping if any of the original 100 Beta units are still at the shop.
I find it hard to believe the kit was ready for Beta testing. Just too much going on here, from my uniformed (I am not a Beta tester) perspective.
I hope all of the clamor from the denizens here did not result in PSA rushing this roll out.
Good luck to all (testers and PSA alike) sorting the trouble.
I have FPGA 173.
We werenāt too worried about incomplete software features for the initial beta release (e.g. the exact display details, bit perfect testing, optional disabling of unused hardware, ā¦). Of course we didnāt want the possibility of a potential hardware problem, but whether the muting bug is hardware or software isnāt clear yet.
Even with the USB issues, i2S sounds awesome!
Maybe itās @Paul 's secret nefarious plan to get us all to switch to i2S!
Understoodā¦and I donāt want to come across as too negative.
I am a big PSA fan. But, despite my limited experience in these matters, the experiences reported thus far have me thinking the kit was not quite ready for āsub-prime timeā.
Again, good luck to you chasing down the answers, Ted.
I agree, the 35 minutes I got to listen was great.
This was in the first hour? Wait until you hit 30 hours, if you can get there.
I just tried USB with lower rate music to see how maybe I can get rid of my Matrix and all the crud that goes with it, and compared it to my full blown Matrix I2S, Iām afraid the USB is still not in the same league as the Matrix, but close though. The Matrix is staying!
Four and a half hours.
I have been streaming DSD256 recordings for 4.5 hours over i2S.
Okay, to find out if you have the same bug itās time to switch source. But donāt blame me if you donāt hear music
When I lose sound the only way I can get it back is by shutting down the power from back of unit and then restarting. Dosnt mater from what input sound only lasts about 30 min. Calling it quits for the night. I have off from work tomorrow and will try only plugging in one input.
So, youāre saying both USB and I2S are coming from the same source. Have you run the USB long enough to get a fair comparison? They supposed sounding really close.
I played with USB for a bit, but thereās clearly a bug in the USB implementation causing Roon to sample DSD to 352.8khz PCM. Didnāt you read my diagnostic log?
I went back to i2S, no need to test that anymore until we get an update.
That log put me in a short nap real quick!
Beta unit arrived this morning. After one hour run in I went up to listen. Stunning out of the box! Wider sound stage, more separation, better bass definition, just all around better sounding. Zero issues with display or functions.
My set up is simple compare to others: PST on I2S and Auralic streamer on USB. I purposely listened to my FLAC files via the Auralic (both ripped and HDTracks) as these are what appears to be the weak link in my playback chain. No longer! Everything I played sounded much better. Only change was stock MKI to MKII. Absolutely a keeper. Thanks Ted and PS Audio team.
I found my self listening to entire albums instead of my reference tracks. I stop being a beta tester and just sat back and enjoyed the music.
Yes, from my Esoteric streamer. I use the same ChordMusic USB cable, but with the Matrix, I haded to add a Farad Super 3 power supply and also a Dragon HDMI cable. But I can hear this MKII USB is much improved, just not enough to beat I2S.
Thanks! That is particularly good information for me to find the next streamer!
