Those are questions for @aangen. I believe he’s the one playing around with both those units right now. Maybe he can tell us how close they sound. My guess is he still prefers the Techdas.

The price I paid for TT, cartridge, and phono stage together needed to play records, and for digital, the streamer, DAC, and Matrix for the front end. It doesn’t matter, it’s only money.

The problem I have with spending over a certain amount for digital gear (where the Mk II would be fine, but the TSS for its MSRP rather not) is, that everything before 1980 has so much worse digital masterings, that it would make no sense to play it back with such expensive gear compared to the vinyl masterings. And that half of everything released in digital and vinyl after the 80‘s for whatever reason also seems to sound better on vinyl.
So for someone like me it’s the question how much I want to spend for gear playing back the really good recorded (doesn’t need to be available in hires or a certain format) part of new music, available as digital format only. And „really good“ mostly means the very small labels and some exceptions within the big labels.
But this kind of calculation is certainly different for every user.

The thing is we don’t know how well the TSS will perform. If it can equal or surpass my current vinyl system, I’m more than willing to pay the expected $20k or so for it.
I’m sure it will be fantastic, but I’m pretty sure it won’t compensate mastering/recording source differences…as no whatever expensive DAC I heard so far could.

I am at approximately 340 hours of burn-in. The MKII seems to have really settled in. I moved it into what I hope will be it’s long term place in our cabinet this weekend so it was turned off for a few hours. When I turned it back on I really didn’t listen to it critically to see if there was a warm up time. Four or five hours later I sat down and listened and didn’t notice any negative effects from moving it or turning it off.
I’ve been listening to a few recordings pretty much every day just to get a sense of change. One of them is from David Chesky’s new label The Audiophile Society. Over the past few weeks the soundstage had gotten bigger and bigger. It’s settled in now and the sense I get is the soundstage is now several feet to the left and right of our speakers. It’s fantastic.
Warning - This is Electronica, but worth the listen.

I believe the units being shipped currently are beta. GR would be after the first of the year is my guess.

I have the sonore optical/ultra rendu combo. I use the HDMI into the Mark 2, not USB and can play all DSD levels.
After three weeks of burn in the Mark II is running fine. No transformer hum and no shutdowns. I mentioned earlier that I heard a tick or static discharge sound every time I started playing (streaming or CD). Now I hear multiple static pops and they are also present between tracks. Not sure if they occur during the music. If they do the music masks them.
I find it one of those, “sonically nice, musically mostly uninteresting” sorts of things. DSD or high-res PCM DL only AFAICT.
Like the Guttenberg review says more about him/his tastes than the rekkid, IMO.
Ok so this is super duper weird When powering my LG TV with the LG remote when pressing up down scroll buttons it is powering the MK2 on and off… Very bizzare Please advise Was trying to watch the Soccer game at 2pm and listen to tunes…
