First, thanks to all the beta testers and PS team! I’ve been lurking for a few weeks and just received my MKII on Saturday afternoon. Very easy setup process and hooked up to a PST via I2S and a laptop using USB. System is a Luxman L-595ASE integrated, Aerial 7Ts, PS-P12, EAT C# TT, Nordost Heimdall II cables all around except for Audioquest Carbons for HDMI and USB. I replaced a MkI with Bridge with the MKII and hoping for the AirLens soon.
My initial listening impressions were extremely positive. Improved depth and height, more precise imaging, and tighter/deeper bass. I am now burning in with Qobuz through USB and will report back later this week.
I do have a question for the community. What is the best setting to use for the Windows driver? Right now i have it set at 32 bit, 96 kHz. I know that the MKII does quite a bit of DSP on its own and was not sure how much this setting matters
Thanks,
Paul
You mentioned you can’t burn in the MKII as others have, but remember once you have the connection to your PST made, you can always play a track or disc on repeat for as long as you want!
I have been testing the Quad Rate DSD over USB. I have tried files from different sources and have issue with playing and stopping and sometimes locking up JRiver. I believe it is computer related but not sure. I really don’t want to unbox the mk1 just to try and than I could only try single and double rate. I have successfully played single rate files ok and even some of those that I have recently downloaded.
Have you tried, say, ASIO vs. the other interfaces in JRiver MC? With the DS I found them to all be about equally functional/flaky. So far I’m happier with ASIO on the ComTrue chip in the Mk II, but I haven’t spent a lot of time in JRiver MC with USB.
@tedsmith been running the MK2 with the PST and ran into an issue. When playing SACD and then switching back to CDs the indicator on the MK2 does not switch back to CD. The bit rate changes but the CD indicator does not.
OK! Sent all the Beta testers an email. Here’s what it says:
Hey all!
Wow, what a weekend! Again, Thank you all for your patience and help through the beta process!
Here’s the latest update:
The code we released Friday could have caused you issues. There are a few specific scenarios that we would like you to reach out to us about.
If your DSD MK2 has:
2.3.0 with no issues – You’re good! Don’t put the updated software on just yet. Hang tight and we will have the updated software out soon.
2.3.0 with muting, no audio – Please reach out to us
2.3.3 with no issues – You’re good! But your feedback on your unit would be very appreciated. Such as your update process, what type of computer you were using, how you have your DSD hooked up. Etc.
2.3.3 with muting, no audio – Please revert your unit back to 2.3.0
2.3.3 that was reverted back to 2.3.0 with muting, no audio – Please reach out to us
To revert your DSD MK2 back to 2.3.0 I have included the file you need in this email. You need to follow the update guide (also attached to this email) with the 2.3.0 file. Please restart your unit after the reverted software is installed.
Please email all feedback to service@psaudio.com and specify which scenario you fall under.
If you have issues, please give us as much detail as possible. We are hunting down what could be the cause and right now and the issues do not seem to follow a set scenario.
Just to add when using the right arrow it says AUTO SACD. This was the setting in the PST default SACD. But I have changed that back to CD. Turned both units off waited 30seconds and both back on again, no change. Not sure if this helps.
Please forgive me if I’m wrong here as I’m not home with mine to look at it right now, but is it possible you’ve set the input you’re using on the MK2 (or it was preset) to “SACD” for your PST? (I think “SACD” may be one of the default names you can select). I didn’t do any re-naming of inputs and where your MK2 is showing “SACD” mine indicates which input source I’m using (i2s1, i2s2, coaxial, optical…).
The DSD MK 2 doesn’t know what type of media is playing on the Transport. As tuladct indicated in a post further down, this is because you have renamed the input source on the DSD MK 2 for that input to “SACD”. You do this through the Audio Input | Input Names menu. It will show as SACD regardless of what the actual source is or what the media playing on that source is. There isn’t an option for Transport or PST at the moment, but that’s something we can add in the future.
