I see only 178. Isn’t the logo suppose to blink first?
No, it doesn’t. Just leave the USB in there for a few minutes to see if it will upload later. If it’s not working you should try a lower 16 or 8g USB drive to try.
Need to scroll down arrow then 179 should pop up select then load. I noticed that mine only showed previous version until down scroll.
Or that is not issue.
Photo??
I used a 32GB scan disk no issues
Yes, I forgot you need to do that, and 32 should work. I have a 64 USB playing music just fine.

This is the best song I heard tonight on MKII 179 version. So open and just real and better than I have ever heard it before . Hat’s off to Ted and the PSA team. ![]()
The single malt I favor is Aberfeldy 12 yr. I like many others like Lagavulin and Highland Park but they have increased beyond my comfort $ zone. This one is affordable ($36 at Costco) and is a step above entry level Glennfidich and Macallan in my opinion.
Ok, I’m back on the sane train. I was not digging version 178 or the first night with v.179, but tonight, the
forward edginess in the mids has vanished. It has mellowed considerably. Voices and instruments are more palpable, more fleshed out. I can now get back in the room and listen to the likes of Dylan, Waits, and Cohen (who can be a challenge on any day) and enjoy their broken chords without wincing. I don’t know if this version is as good as the first, and I do detect there maybe a bit of bloom in the lower mids, but it is much better than recent ones. Onward and upward.
Each new release can need to burn in different parts of the FPGA. They all use resources that previous releases didn’t, and we learned on the DS that a lot of people can hear things settle down after a few days with each release. Similarly, be prepared to retweak your system with each software release to get the best out of it, just like you would with a new component in your system.
Roger that.
Aberfeldy 12 yr. Is hard to beat for the price, and it’s gone in days when it is available at Costco. I have 1/4 left in the bottle and need to find some soon.
179 FW makes the midrange so clear and clean, and it’s the biggest improvement I heard. I am thinking that I don’t need the Purple fuse in it anymore. It’s possible the stock fuse may give even better balance. Well, I better wait a few days since the SQ is changing a bit from last night.
I did some Bob, Tom, and Leonard tonight and all did very well. Not sure why 179 was great for me out of the gate perhaps because I ran 173 so long and they use similar FPGA gates?
But tonight it is just balance and full of life nearly anything I play. I do say Another Time Bill Evans was pretty amazing too! Just i2S input 2 is pretty ragged when I compared to one and with shorting plugs. . It maybe break in or noise or both. I am pretty happy I don’t have other sources to run in right now snd hear the best possible. The ui software improvements to manually shut down input power supplies need a remote implementation. Though i have not had problems hearing difference just plugging in the shorting plugs not in listening chair. This DAC is so good combined with resolving speakers and amps, what a jaw dropper.
Blasphemy!
Beeswax Ultimate SHD. Those purples distort.![]()
Among three versions 178 was the worst in my system, which made me to change fuse to Purple. 179 brought back great balance that I really think Purple is too much. I sold my Ultimate and I dislike the idea to buy one back at higher price. I remember stock fuse was very good in version 173.
But I’ll wait a couple days see if there’s more change in sound.
For the best soundstage (with dancing monks) you should try the Mookfiddich, riped in casks of mpingowood… Will give the Aberfeldy 12 yr a try, thanks for the suggestion. I like the Balvenie Doublewood.
Awesome picture, enjoy ![]()
Don’t see dancing monks, but rocking FR30’s… this must be a powerful whisky!
