Maybe we can get Dennis to chime in.
I added the warning to shut off the power amp.

brodricj said DSjrforce works.Does your DSjr have access to the internet? It needs to be able to talk to updates.psaudio.com. Is this expected behaviour?
I note that the mute bug that was in Yale has been fixed in Torreys. Sort-of. I was expecting VOL+ or VOL- would cancel the mute, but it doesn’t. The only way to un-mute is to toggle the mute button again.

I’ve had some time with Torreys today. To give it a fair assessment I promoted DSJ into the number one spot in the rack so it can benefit from P3 regenerated power + AC12 power cable, dedicated pre-amp (Halcro), and Crystal cable UD interconnects. That’s over $40k worth of meaningful differences in the mix so comparing Torreys against my previous assessments of Yale is potentially meaningless.
My initial impression is one of brightness in Torreys that I’m not used to, and I found onset of listening fatigue before the end of the second playing of the first CD (RUFUS Du Sol - Bloom). Detail, separation and depth of image is very good, actually excellent (Yale was not weak on these aspects either), but localisation in width I found confusing. The performance has one lead singer, but there are two of him, one in each speaker. This is unusual, normally the vocal centre image is locked down very tight on this content. Some experimentation might be in order to fine tune the new sonic landscape presented by the DSJ.
At this point I swapped out the DSJ for my more familiar (tube based) DAC and familiarity with my sound-scape is restored. No more split image solo vocals, and things sound convincing again.
I’m wondering if the installation has something to do with these observations. The DSJ occupying the number one spot is in a space more prone to vibration influence (it’s very close to a subwoofer), and the top cover isn’t installed so the chassis is probably not as rigid as it is in the proper configuration. There are a few things to contemplate.

DSjr gets its LAN address from the router. When I ping updates.psaudio.com from the subnet the DSjr is on I get no response. Everything else on this subnet can reach out onto the internet.
Dennis
PING and HTTP is enabled on the internal and WAN1 interface of the router, and there is no policy on the DSJ subnet that would prevent traffic getting out to the WAN side…I have no idea how I can read the PS Audio forums on this subnet (this computer is on the same subnet as the DSJ), but I can’t ping the update server from this computer. Presumably if my DNS can resolve forums.psaudio.com it can also resolve updates.psaudio.com.
If you can’t ping updates.psaudio.com from your subnet, that is your issue. I am not sure how to help you solve this issue. What error message do you get when you try to ping it?
PING updates.psaudio.com (207.173.249.200): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Friendly Name “BridgeII” doesn’t appear in the DHCP client list next to the LAN IP of the DSJ. It’s showing CoversDigital. I put the DSJ on another segment of the network so the traffic isn’t passing through a Pakedge managed switch (these switches are more trouble than they’re worth) and it’s still showing “Bridge Update not available”.

Yep, FTP works. I get a login screen.
brodricj said Yep, FTP works. I get a login screen. If that works from your subnet then the DSjr should see the update. Is the Gateway and at least 1 DNS server set correctly?
If you have a windows system email at dennis@psaudio.com and I have another way you can update the bridge code.
Dennis
I also cannot ping updates.psaudio.com, but get a login screen for ftp://updates.psaudio.com (both from my Mac). Obviously, I can also reach psaudio.com/forum
I currently have no Bridge II issues, but wanted to confirm that brodricj’s experience is not isolated.
All up-to-date now via manual methods. Thanks to Dennis for his help.
Now I need to work out how Roon works, etc etc.
(getting off topic, but I take it that Roon isn’t a music source, it’s a music management tool for music you have acquired from other sources?)
I just downloaded Torreys Final for my DS DAC and it sounds great! Great job everyone at PS Audio!
Great and welcome to the forum!
Just received and installed my Directstream Junior today. It says it has Yale firmware, so I downloaded the Torreys firmware from the website, placed the four files included on a USB drive (formatted as FAT), plugged it in the back of the DAC, powered down for 10+ seconds, powered on and the logo flashed for about two minutes.
Once done flashing, it ran through it’s ‘verifying FPGA’ screen, said done, but when I check the firmware, it still reads Yale and there is no bridge update available. I tried the ‘force load’ files listed higher up in this post, with the same results.
What am I missing?
Thanks for any info…
Hi jeffnesh. Are you using a MAC? Sometimes the MAC’s re-formatting tools do not properly do the job of re-formatting the USB stick. If you are unsuccessful in getting your DsJ to Torreys please email me here:
I will furnish you with a solution.
Thanks in advance,
Yep, formatted on a Mac, but I have a PC as well. I’ll give it a shot tonight…thanks for the lead.
I’m interested to know what this Mac user solution is too
jeremy you seem to be a new name in ps audio not seen you here before…or maybe I just haven’t been looking hard enough.
Got a jr Friday with yale, updated to torreys this morning no issues, sounds great better than my Oppo 105 by alot
