Hi,
Id appreciate if someone can provide instructions on how to open the MK2 (specifically, the cover), and specifically examine if the unit is allocated or not?
Thanks.

Dive in and make the change.
Otherwise you will need to ship the unit back.
There is a video online somewhere showing an upgrade of a DAC jr to Sr. with the old kit. That is how I learned. its the same case. remove base screws and use small rods (I got some off amazon years agoâŠwill never find in my purchase history) to push down on.
On my to do list to order another. One moved both plastic rings trimmed. I2S $2 still has no grounding tab as I was not able to find it. it was not in the case. Both boards removed to do the transformer upgrade we would have seen it. We were puzzled on two pieces we found. a nut and the spring. After looking at the board we found out what jeff was talking about for the spring and the nut was for the screen on the ethernet input. we did not realize it did not have threads and when we removed the nut just fell. But all went well and it sound fantastic. unfortunately for debugger in me, I know have new pre (4 days old when I did this change), new transformers, and new attached spring. What is making system sound better??? probably all 3 together. At this point I dont care. Next time I open or if I get a second I2S device I will fix the other once PSAudio ships me a replacement (I still have to call).
That is where the green ground pin on the AC socket is. My guess is the allows you to flip off the AC cover plate. I have seen fuses positioned with in the AC socket.
If PSA acknowledges a ground tab installation issue, and it can be successfully remedied in the field without warranty considerations, I think both parties would be best served with a factory acknowledgment,
a solution, and instructions for remedy. If PSA deems that a return to the factory is required, so be it, but it should be communicated by them to all users.
This is a very disturbing situation. I hope we get some clarification on what is happening from PSA. Iâm not afraid of getting into a piece of gear, but not one that is still under warranty. Iâm also waiting on the Massive fix/final release. I love the MKII, but there are these issues.
There is a video on updating and original Perfectwave DAC to Direcstream which completely explains how to open up the case. You will need a set of #4x40 all threads to do so. It is easy when you have the all threads.
I think he was refering to the rectangular film capacitor which does resemble the old internal fuse holders.
I checked my mk2 and both is2 inputs are missing the grounding tab. The other grounding tabs on that top row appear to be contacting metal. I did not see any loose metal pieces thank goodness. My unit was part of the beta group.
one of mine was in there. We could not find the second. And we had both boards out of the box. it was pretty empty.
Seems to be a lack of Quality control in the assembly/build, maybe these points mentioned previously were not highlighted as important?
More of a design thing that could have been caught with more beta testing. It all works, just real would happens and they bump in the night and pop off. Honestly w/o the upgrading of the transformers I do not think anyone even PSA would have caught this soon.
Itâs just incredible
Swear this will be my last comment to this effect
I mean itâs an $8000 piece of equipment
My friends $200,000 car was not delivered due to a light not working and NHSTA held it up. 3 weeks. Crap happens, tts what PSA does that matters. who knows how it came about, bad specs on the plastic ring, someone did not foresee it movingâŠetc⊠who knows. But we know about it now. The fix is simple if you know what you are doing, and I say most do not, so how will the average buyer get this fixed.
Guys, I watched the videos. I go to the hardware store ( if I do not have what I need already ) and get 4 1.5" flat head screws with the right threads. I use them to make it possible to remove the lid. I have two questions.
Letâs say some of mys HDMI ( I2S ) sockets are missing the tabs. How do I fix this? Get new tabs and solder them back on? If I solder them in the same pace as before they will get push off again when I inset and HDMI cable. What do I do to make it reliable?
Does this ground tap problem effect the USB connector?
I just called. Without going into details and history he knew whatni was talking about but only offered to ship in and fix. Which is nice but not what I wanted. I will have to do via email and see if they will send. Do any of the smart people here know if this a part I can get on digikey or something like that? Itâs a 10min repair. It will take longer to climb in attic to get box and pack up than fix it. Non the less shipping and waiting.
On a second note my stupidity for sending silver remote back with mk1 instead of old black one only cost me $15 to fix. Only 3 more than the eversolo cheapo plastic remote. Thank you PSA
I donât know that the grounding tabs can easily be resoldered. I had the grounding tab issue on my MK2 fixed by PSA several weeks ago and they simply replaced the entire digital board. They didnât bother soldering new tabs on. I still have one of the broken off tabs and it looks like more than solder is possibly holding them in place. If they could simply be soldered back onto the board one would think thatâs what PSA would have done. To allow more clearance for the tabs to make proper contact with the chassis the technicians modified the I2S connector shroud like others here have suggested doing.
