Congratulations!
itās a unique sales model, giving full retail on trade-ins, though I have to believe this sales model was quite extensively researched before implementedā¦
canāt figure out how they do this, unless very few people trade in
How in the world can PSA give me for trade-in with large fraction of an MSRP 20 years ago (eg, 5,900 trade-in value for item purchased 20 years ago for about $7,500, those much of this retained for a future purpose)?
The typical maximum trade-in discount PSA allows is 30% of list price on any product. Used gear that is traded in is then sold to The Music Room for some amount of money (though I donāt know how much that averages out to be). That means that PSA operates with a typical discount to consumers of somewhat less than 30% of list price on each item. Presumably this results in higher income per sale than when PSA was selling through a U.S. dealer network. In parts of the world outside of the U.S., the factory-based trade-in plan is not offered although dealers are able to offer some discounts if they choose. At least thatās how I understand it.
Also, the full MSRP probably wouldāve worked if there are dealers involved. In the U.S, that is no more.
Iāve really appreciated PS Audioās trade-in policy, especially as a local so I can avoid shipping costs/packing, etc. Also have bought used PS Audio gear from The Music Room, keeping it local!
Morrow Audioās sales model is a bit of an odd one. Iām a fan of their cables, but canāt really appreciate their āretailā prices when theyāre all on constant sale of 30-50% off (and more if you do trade-in). Their anniversary cable (which I love) retails at $7K but no one in their right mind would ever pay near that for them (as far as I can tell!).
Apparently asynchronously with releasing the FPGA thereās an update of the web site going on. I guess weāll have to see how things go, the new FPGA release probably wonāt go live until Monday or so. Sorry for the confusion.
Or a $28k pair.
Oh no! What are we going to loose with this website update! I have still not gotten over the loss of the Playlist Editor which I used regularly!
FPGA 198 Antero is up in the download section of this site. Itās in the āPerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2 v2.3.6ā package.
The āHow to Upgrade DSD MK2 firmware.txtā file contains the update instructions in section 2. (The instructions say the version screen should say ā178-Beta SSā, but instead it should say ā198-Anteroā.)
I just want to add that Iām not done with stomping pops, and if I (or you) find any, Iāll try to get those in the April release.
[Edit: - A few updates: Use FAT32 on your USB stick. And you may need to turn off the Mk II before you put the USB in, and then turn it back on to get it to read the list of FPGA releases off of the USB stick.]
Thank you, Ted!
We didnāt quite get to 201ā¦
Hi Ted,
There are two bin files (user int and fpga). Should we do both updates?
Thanks,
Jerry
You donāt need to have the image.bin file on the USB stick. It wonāt hurt anything since everyone should be on a version thatās compatible with the released 2.3.6 image.bin.
Okay, thanks for the quick response.
Should we expect a break-in period? If so, how much? Thanks!
Whats updates should we expect here?
UI updates?
Are the pops fixed?
Sound Q differences?
Thatās a tough one. Not as long of a break in as a new unit, but perhaps more than you might expect, say 100 hours? It shouldnāt sound worse than the old code right out of the chute, but it will get better.
Will do. Thanks!
