Directstream Mk 2 observations

I am sorry I was not clear Integrated Circuits are milions of 1 and zero binary switches. Switch on a light switch and the contacts create noise in th switch. No do that millions of times in the IC that noise escapes to the internal chassis of your HiFi component. That is often sealed faraaday metal cage where noise bounces around. Absorbed by component s in the unit and fed as noise back to your ground. Now absorb the noise convert the noise to heat Components internal to your hifi unit and the power cable is less affected since they are all antennas. Less noise to your music

Now consider the RF from cellphones WiFi extremely short wavelength. Getting into the cooling slots of HiFi. Components. That noise adds up. The 3m absorption turns that to heat also.

Now the magnetic fields in transformers are based on physics. Google magnetic fields in a toroidal transformer. There is a magnetic field shooting straight up the middle of donut. Absorb that it really quiets the power. 3m material Works outside the lid and seems to supercharge the the intensity of reproduction of audio. Strange but it works. Once you hear better you know.

Thanks, Iā€™m old, slow and dense, but with the right instruction (yours) I get it. Thanks.

LOL. I have been inside my Kismet to do fuse modding, etc and noticed these. I have seen this stock, or done this type of mod and also dampening to a lot of more modest priced gear.

Maybe my thought is if it such a useful enhancement, why is not on it as standard at this relatively high price point ( I guess for me it is a higher price point for one component)?

Itā€™s all good, was just sort of surprised. I have a VAC tube preamp and my speakers are voiced to be slightly on warm side as are the Kismets and my system could probably use more definition or clarity so I maybe will not need it. But I always end up trying tweaks if they are reasonably price. LOL.

What a congestion of continuously upgraded threads! And Iā€™m eagerly jumping from one to another!

Cat herding is too much like work.

Concurrent response nse always beats sequential in a team share environment.

There are times at work when I prefer a single, focused effort confined to a forum. Especially since we can have a library and wiki within the forum. I am hoping to have a working white board inside our forums in the near future. Everyone will have tablets with pens so we can collectively collobarate since we are all remote.

I generally agree with you at work, where a controlled environment keeps the posts on focus and strictly referred to the title thread.

Here on this crazy forum there is often repeated and less pertinent proliferation of posts, it is not easy to be disciplined having fun, even if in that way itā€™s a little bit time consuming, it really doesnā€™t matter. Rules, no thanks.

You know Iā€™m italian, caos is written in my DNA along with a few other things like creativity, sense of beauty, taste for good food and good wine and a low level of humility! Opsā€¦

In any case thanks @Elk for your patient work!

Wait, you donā€™t use Teams? Blasphemy! The ex O365/Collaboration Product Owner in me wants to scream and yell and force you to use Teamsā€¦

We do use Teams. We are in an early adopter ā€œringā€ so we see features well in advance of general availability. We are a strategic partner of MS.

Same with us. Or should I say my old team. I just guilted MS into giving me a free Surface Laptop for ā€œtestingā€ā€¦ We hit the pedal hard at the beginning of Covid with Teams from Sfb and have not looked back. its a bit of a resource hog, but been pretty good.

I will be coming from a DSD Jr, but if im going to spend the money, I would like to have heard some thoughts on dCS or other DAC reviews..

With the trade in, seems like MKii is a no brainier. 8k for 5k. Not in the same ballpark as BartĆ³k.

Maybe as Lina. But cheaper with trade in.

Keep in mind that the DS DAC Mk II will include free FPGA updates for years to come with improvements in sound quality. I am not aware of any other company that offers such free updates. That is one of the things that I liked so much about the Mk I. It was like getting a new DAC several times over without having to spend any money.

I have heard that dCs also does software updates but not as frequently or as extensive as the ones Ted creates.

Schiit does this also to my knowledge, but believe they charge for them!

Also Playback Designs does software updates, tho I donā€™t know if they charge or not.
