It is a nice metal piece in black color like a remote control. It has a RCA cable to insert into the input of a component. Supposedly it works better than demagnetizing CDs. I have it and when I found it, I will post a picture. I really do not recall how effective it was, but it was the loudest demagnetize device that I have ever heard.![]()
I heard it only works if one has a magnetic personality
Just as a point of information, your post piqued my curiosity so I checked online. Gryphon warns that:
“ALWAYS and ONLY connect the Gryphon Black Exorcist to the interconnect leading to
your cartridge. The Gryphon Black Exorcist is designed exclusively for demagnetization
of phono cartridges and cannot be used for any other purpose. To demagnetize the rest
of your audio system, we recommend regular use of the line-level Gryphon Exorcist. For
additional information, contact your authorized Gryphon dealer.”
Yes, I was going to post this alone with a picture. I got rid of my analog collection a long time ago, and that is why I don’t remember where I put it![]()
Unless your cartridge has iron in it, like a moving iron, why would one demagnetize their cart? I’d be worried about damaging it. I’ve never seen advice from any of my cartridge manuals recommending demagnetizing.
I was at a fellows home. He had three complete monster systems in his large listening room. Just rotate the chairs when you switch from one system to another.
Anyway, we were listening to vinyl on a system with big, white horn drivers. Someone asked the host if he demagnetized the vinyl before putting it on. I kept quiet. He said he forgot, took the LP off, and set it in the $3000 machine that demagnetizes vinyl. When he put it back on I was very sad. It sounded noticeably better.
To this I say Bah!
You’ve surely noticed the highly charged static that causes new records to cling strongly to their sleeve. After a bath in the Degritter, static is always gone. In those cases, I use my Zerostat on the inside of the sleeve before slipping the record back in.
(don’t tell anybody, but I also do this while wearing white socks, only one slipper and chanting ohhhhmmmmm, ohhhhhmmm.)
I have a way better device than a Zerostat I use even after a bath. It makes such an amazing difference I get excited every time I use it. And it was only $359. Some of my friends have the $4000 special tower thingy next to there turntables. I have heard they work well too. But I hate spending money on tweaks.
Haven’t used my XLO de-mag CD in years, kinda forgot it makes a difference. Played tracks 6 and 7 twice and things sound a little better. Tighter bass and increased clarity.
I found this sucker hiding deep in the storage. Like I said I got rid of my analog setup more than 10 years ago, and that was the last time I used it. It is a little metal box with a typical Gryphon look:
I have no use for it at all. Let me know if anyone is interested. I am thinking of $250 shipping included. I will throw in a dirt-cheap RCA cable too. No audiophile RCA is needed here. ![]()
I would love to have it!!!

Want! Want! Want!
Thanks Al! Sold Sold Sold!
I thought you were joking with the name of the product, lol.
Al has it now, and he’s so busy playing with it that he didn’t even have time to check in the forum yet.
I am in frigid Florida right now. I have not had a chance to play with it yet. Soon!
