I currently own a DirectStream DSD Mk1 with Bridge2. Looking to upgrade my system. I have Thiel 7.2s powered by Lamm 1.2 Monoblocks and Lamm 2.1 tube pre-amp. I was running the Mk1 direct until I recently added the Lamm tube Pre to add more warmth/tube effect. I have considered upgrading to the MK2 with or without Airlens. I believe it is 8K for a reconditioned Mk2 and an airlens. You can get about $2,500 I believe for the trade-in or you can sell the unit on the open market. I have loved my Mk1 - really liked the fact that it was upgraded along the way. Not great that is not worth much now, but I guess with digital gear changing so much this gear behaves differently than other components that seem to hold at least 50% of their new value over time. I am wondering if I should go this route or try something like a Meitner MA3. This provides a streamer and DAC combo. The Meitner DAC is regarded as being warmer, more laid back which is appealing in my setup. A Meitner MA3 is about $5,500 used and is rated by some as being “superior” to the Mk2. Realizing this is PS Audio forum but assume many went through this consideration process. Other considerations I should consider - thx
Welcome!
Welcome!
I was in a similar spot a while back and looked at a number of streaming DACs, I ended of going with a server/streamer and Lampizator DAC and finally landed on MSB
May want to look at a Lampizator, if you are open to going with a separate streamer, Lampi, with the right tubes, will give you all the warmth and detail you can handle
If one box is required, I demoed and loved the Bricasti offerings!
Best,
