In the Stereophile review (and those boneheads at ASR) said there was a large amount of ultrasonic noise in the DirectStream MK 2.
Have these firmware upgrades addressed that?
Yes. Its the last release of software we will see for that unit. it did address it for about 99%. There are still a few people who report issues with certain amps, but for the most part its solved.
That horse was beaten well dead long ago in other threads. Folks seem to like the sound of the MK2.
I just got interested in this DAC, so I haven’t researched it till now.
its a really good time to buy. its at a low, many on market
I bought mine a year and a half ago when the MKII was still marketed as the latest and greatest. Paid a lot more for it than you can get it for now. Do I wish I had done things differently? Not really. Bought it with the intention that it would be with me long term. Now that I’ve lived with it I’m more in love with it than ever. Pair it with an excellent interconnect and power amp and it makes an excellent high end digital system, assuming you have a digital source, and you can get them on the cheap. The result is everything I had hoped and more. Given today’s market with tariffs mucking up everything you can’t beat the MKII.
Thanks,
It will be nice to have a complete PS stack again. Already have the BHK preamp and 250 amp.
SGC optical Rendu for streamer.
