It’s been quite awhile since the Massive firmware upgrade. Is there anything new in the works?
I believe the days of quarterly, or there abouts, releases are gone. Too many irons in the fire for the current resources would be my guess. But then again I could be wrong.
I think there is not much in the way of functional problems to correct in the software, and that is what drives the upgrades, not sound quality.
Could be. I’ve had no operational problems with my MKll so far. Knock on wood. A update with some sort of sonic improvement in the future would be great at some point.
There’s still an occasional issue - only with some data devices (streamers etc) where there is a very light ‘pop’ with DSD files under various circumstances. Ted has done everything on his side, I think, that is possible, but the humongous number of streamers and whatnot out there means there’s always a chance it can occur. As an example, there’s still a very slight issue in this regard when the Rose RS130 is feeding the MkII. It isn’t truly intrusive, but it’s there.
That could be I guess. I don’t stream at all in my system.
I normally get a light click at the beginning and end of a DSD track. My system is all PSA stuff (DSD Mk2, AirLens, BHK preamp, plugged into a P12). I can live with this, but it would be nice to get it fixed.
I use my MK2 with the PST and an Innuos Zenith mkIII on the I2S and USB respectively with no clicks, pops. I play discs, locally stored files and the occasional Qobuz stream. As with anything in our crazy hobby; YMMV.
Some useful information here, but … this topic has come up recently, see here .
@Elk
As before, someone else has started another DSD mk2 firmware thread, could you please amalgamate them and any others on this topic.
Thank you.
It would help all DSD mk2 owners if answers were given to our questions.
More than 14 months now since last firmware upgrade so it is fair for owners to be asking these questions.
@Paul
@tedsmith
As was stated in the linked thread, Paul said early on it would be a minimum of 18 months before the next FPGA update. Given how things have gone in the past I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 24 months. Ted is not a PS Audio employee, rather he is a contractor. He has other duties and quite honestly, I think he has gotten all of the “easy” improvements in programming the FPGA. Let him work at his pace and be patient.
Well put
Anyone see what @paul wrote today?
I just did now…very cool. Hope its soon.
I’m not sure I understand the phenomenon he’s talking about but it sounds intriguing.
As of today… I can’t imagine any less “stickiness” in my system…unbounded effortlessness comes to mind!
For those that may not have Paul’s Posts in their daily routine:
They were smart to hold their cards close on this one, lesson(s) learned.
Interesting. With my recent electrical and isolation improvements instruments and music have become somewhat “unstuck” to a larger extent this year. Will look forward to the next mountain release.
Ted’s mountain tops are not usually based on fixing operational issues. Those things are corrected in the operational firmware. Though Ted Is busy he is still working on the next incarnation. We need to be patient and will be rewarded when it is ready.
