DSD512 question

I’ve watched Paul’s video about Octave Records now offering DSD 512 downloads. I have a couple questions.

  1. currently my AirLens and DSD MK2 cannot handle DSD512. Are there updates in the works to allow this? and

  2. since the MK2 upsamples everything to 20x DSD, would there be any benefit to using the DSD512 Octave downloads if the AirLense and MK2 are able to be updated from a max of 256 to 512?

My brother has an Esoteric DAC that can handle DSD512. He told me he cannot hear any difference between DSD512 vs DSD256. If there is any difference, it is so small that it really doesn’t matter. But like me, he did hear without doubt DSD256 over the lesser formats though. I believe Ted Smith did mention the sweet spot for best sound is somewhere between DSD128 and DSD256. I would stick with DSD256 for my playback for the best sound.
