A thoshiba:
The system is connected to a Piega SubWoofer and Revox bookshelves. I still love the sound of that UHER mini system. Metal enclosures made in Munich.
The Brinkmann Mono‘s, some of the most beautiful lookng power amps…was hard to sell them. A short Class AB phase, which otherwise ended after earlier integrateds and just came back inside active speakers.
Magnepan Tympani !-D in the late 70’s to early 80’s. Come to think of it powering those suckers and moving them was a real commitment, or may be I just needed to be committed. Powered with GAS amps, AGI 511a preamp, Linn Sondek LP 12 with Grace f(e. Still have the Sondek (in a box).
I had the same Magnepan Tympani speakers - they were the first speakers I bought in the late 70’s. Powered them with a Mark Levinson ML10a preamp and a 400w Dynaco power amp. Very crisp and clear, but sadly lacking in the low end. Replaced them a couple of years later with Infinity Reference IIB’s, which I still own to this day and use in my current system. (but almost 40 years later, apparently I still can’t seem to get enough low end, so I ended up adding 2 REL S/5 SHO’s)
a Pair of DL7-35 valve monoblocks - 60s British, beautiful sound, very wide frequency response, sounded wonderful on my pair of Richard Allen Pavanes.
Bought in 1980 for 15 quid. Sold (needing a major re-furb, re-valve, re-cap, and possibly re-wind of transformers) for 400 quid in 2002.
I continue to greave over the selling of my Sonic Frontiers SFS-80 amplifier. I traded up to the Sonic Frontiers Power-2 and yes more power and tighter base BUT oh the beautiful smooth sound of the SFS-80 still haunts me.
Thanks for the heads up. A great speaker in its day. I don’t miss them so much that I’d replace them though. Price as of today seems extremely fair at $1,095 for the pair.
