Just plugged my Muon Pro in this evening. Initially constricted range but some extra body and bass. Into the second hour now and it is already a significant step up: “Wow”! No doubt it will continue to open up with more burn in. It’s a keeper.
Currently Router - standard Cat 6 - etherRegen - Furutech Cat8 - Mac mini (BACCH). I know the B side of the etherRegen is limited to 100MB/s. I have another Cat 6 going from the etherRegen to another switch and Wifi extender for other devices in that corner of the house (unavoidable). I am awaiting SFP + fibre cables then will use a converter to bring fibre into my etherRegen, and will compare A vs B sides out to Mac mini. Also awaiting arrival of Linkup 22AWG Cat 8 cables to replace the standard cables.
Interestingly, BACCH effect is much more pronounced.
Once you get the Muon fully broken in flip the direction. I don’t know why but mine works better reversed. To my ears on my system it sounds much better that way.
Network Acoustics is very much into customer satisfaction. I am sure they doing their best to provide asap delivery. They were also very helpful over the years with any request I had.
The MUON Pro is a mandatory purchase. Even FRO agrees and he has doubts about this and that. I can’t think of anyone who has put one in their system who didn’t keep it. @paul172 tried two in his system and found the second one didn’t help. That is great news!
I use a Muon Pro and an ENO2. Network Acoustics will also provide you with recommendations where to use a second one in your individual setup to get the best out of it.
No disappointment from me on my system I need to say that again for certain reasons now unfortunately IMO on my system a second Muon Pro is a waste of money.
I’ve now got Linkup Cat 8 from wall to a mesh wifi extender, then another Linkup to a Netgear switch to supply other devices, with a third Linkup Cat 8 to a TP-Link converter to SFP, then fibre to the SFP in my etherRegen, Furutech Cat 8 NCF (also side A to stay Gigabit speed) to Muon Pro, then Mac mini. The etherRegen is essentially serving as a “clean” SFP to Cat 8 converter as these are the only network connections using it.
I like it. I tried reversing the Muon Pro direction but found that a tad bright. Adding fibre seems to have added a nice bit of isolation in my setup. Better focus, soundstage, detail. I think I’ll need to recalibrate the BACCH as there has been quite a noticeable change, albeit involving multiple changes in close succession.
How long does the Muon streaming cable need to break in, do you recall?
I just turned on the system (with MU2 running Muon streaming cable all night), and the sound is completely different from yesterday. All the murkiness and warmness were removed. Instead, the SQ is cleaner and drier than I ever remembered.
The cable has less than 15 hours, so it is too soon to conclude anything. But SW10/FO/SW-6 combo is back to its glory. The system sounded better than without SW-6 for sure.
