It’s all about the results. I’ll put up with an extra box and I’ll spend a couple hundred dollars more if the sound is demonstrably on a higher level. I thought it worthwhile asking you again because we all know how this works. You make an upgrade and it immediately displays a different maybe better result. Then when you live with it awhile the warts become apparent, if any. Maybe the sound isn’t all that better after all. So that’s what I’m trying to get at. A true advancement will stand the test of time. In this case, sounds like you feel the lower noise floor is audible and a worthwhile improvement. Seems like this isn’t necessarily the case with the alternative.
And again, you’re using the eversolo’s internal dac, yes?
In other news, now there’s a DMP-A8

Wow, this thing is packed with interesting features. Dual power supplies, I2S output, analog volume control and HDMI ARC to name a few. Price?
Wow that did not take long. Is there masters edition too? This hobby drives me nuts
Not official but some a throwing around a $2000 figure.
As long as they keep making devices with onboard DACs, they’re useless for me. Build a streamer only at that price, make it better than (or even competitive with) what I just bought, and then I’ll be interested. Meh.
Yes sir. In my lake home, where my A6 lives, I use the quite nice internal DAC. I was using a Chord Qutest, which alone is twice the price of the A6. I pit the DAC in the A6 against my Gryphon Ethos and my BACCH-SP adio. It isn’t anything close to suffering. It surprised the heck out of me.
But I am a fanboy.
I doubt I will be first tobuy the A8. But it sure looks nice!
Interestingly, there is no mention of Roon support.
Not until they get FORMAL Roon Approval. It will be there.
I can see for a certain kind of buyer the new A8 will be irresistible but not me. I entered this endeavor looking for an elegant way to feed Qobuz to my external DAC. My Master Edition A6 is just what I was looking for. The internal DAC was a nice surprise but it’s the app and streamer combo that’s the meat and potatoes for me. I’m hoping a power supply upgrade will be the icing on the cake. I’m learning to appreciate its DAC but, for me, feeding to my external DAC via USB is at another level.
Hook up the Eversolo DMP-A8 to a pair of powered speakers for a simple digital system. I could find no price mentioned at this time. on the Eversolo site, but rumored to be $2k.
yep, that’s what I thought.
I think for me, using the Pontus DAC, the ES LHY Power Supply just doesn’t make as much of a difference. Sounds great, don’t get me wrong, but i’m guessing we’re hitting the law of diminishing returns with the power-supply upgrade.
What speakers are you using?
not sure if directed at me, but…
Luxman L509X into either Harbeth 30.2XD or KLH model 5. (I drag one pair to my basement system every now and again, depending on my mood and the condition of my lower back.
)
If not directed at me, my answer is the same. ![]()
I’m hoping that upgrades to the power supply will be worthwhile when streaming to an external DAC as well as when using the built in one. Makes sense that there may be more improvements when using the internal DAC though because the new power supply is feeding both the DAC and streamer sections.
I wonder why the new A8 uses both a switching and linear power supply? You would think it would be more cost effective to just use a linear power supply and call it good. Inquiring minds want to know.
It’s a 12v 2.5a power supply. You would need a rather large transformer and rectifier to make that kind of power. plus the other 3 windings of the transformer that’s already in there would increase the size further. My guess would be size constraints or placement issues. Possibly they wanted to keep it at a price point as well. But it is rather odd. I don’t think I’ve seen anything else with mixed power supplies. I have seen multiple toroidal transformers used in high end equipment.
First one I have noticed on the used market.
There’ve been four or five as of late. Two IIRC were Master editions. I guess the shine has worn off this apple.
Hey guys. I bought my A6 Master Edition in the summer when my Lumin D2 died. Subsequently the good folks at Lumin fixed it for me (new mother board) but it took 4 months. Now that it’s back I’m kind of 50/50 on which to keep; A6 ME or D2. They are different but both great. PM me if you’re interested in the A6 ME (a few months old, I don’t know maybe 200 hours of listening). I won’t talk about how ‘good’ the A6 ME is. I will say, for $1299 new (mine will be less ;-)) it’s great.
Curious if you let us know which of the two apps you like better.
