Favorite rock band still releasing new material

I’m affair I can’t come up with many candidates, but here’s what I got, in no particular order.

Red Hot Chile Peppers
Neil Young
Ozzy Osborn
Rolling Stones
Van Morrison
Green Day
Santana

AC/DC - 2020
Aerosmith - 2023

I don’t think of Neil or Van as rock

That band just popped into my head, was wondering when their last release was. AC/DC is Definitely a candidate.

Yeah Neil Young and Van Morrison might be a stretch for rock, although some of Neil’s earlier stuff with Crazy Horse had rock elements to it.

Jethro Tull, although without Martin Barre, they’re not really Tull to me anymore.

Yeah there’s a handful of rock bands still putting out good material but it’s kinda looking like rock is dying.

None of the newer crop of rock bands come close to the legends of the past.

It’s generational, a break with the past so to speak, thus its allure.

I remember seeing Robin Trower at the Barrymore some 8 years back. Was a fan with his power trio with James Dewar, and Reg Isidore. A great band channeling a distinctive Jimi Hendrix vibe. Lots of fun on the two occasions I saw them in Chicago. The Barrymore concert was creepy. Robin was in fine form, his current band was a mere shadow of what had been. The crowd was actually what creeped me out. The Barrymore had a section in back to stow attendees wheeled walkers.

Seriously though, my musical enjoyment comes from active players and emergent bands more or less at the top of their game. The old dudes need to make way for new talent. If I want to see a retro band I suppose I could head over to The Casino.

Guster
Van Morrison
Bruce Cockburn

There must be others, but they’re eluding me. At least I’d like to think there are others. Crap, I feel old!

BTW, I know some will suggest these aren’t “rock,” and that’s fine. Truth be told, I was never much into the typical rock bands. In college I listened to Tull, the Who and some Stones, and even had a brief flirtation with Uriah Heep. But even then I was more on the pop end of the spectrum. Nowadays it’s the very rare rock act that gets my attention.

Dying ?
For the most part it’s been long gone.

Yeah just wishful thinking on my part.

Luckily I enjoy most musical genres, but as far as rock n roll, there’s very few current rock bands that interest me.

Big thumbs up to Los Lobos. They still have it in spades. We saw them just a couple years ago in a small venue with great acoustics. David Hidalgo and gang killed it!

I’m seeing them again in March at City Winery NYC. Always have a great time with them. Once (when my table was next to the stage) I got a fist bump at the end from Conrad Lozano, the bass player, just for making eye contact a few times. Nice guys too.
