That’s really the coolest feature which make me really get the feel of having something my own.
And I created so many playlists (through Music Brainz) for my 100s of CDs.
And, interestingly, it always worked for me like a charm after P S Audio fix some of the initial problems in 2-3 months release of DMP.
So Qs to Paul @Paul and other concerned P S Audio folks - will there at least be any app to control this new SACD transport which can display the cover arts from the same database that DMP uses ?
Hi Paul,
I had PWT and now have a DMP. I have a Gain Cell and two M700’s.
I love the Steller look and the I2S input is great. A Steller CD player would be wonderful for me but don’t need SACD as I only play CD’s.
A new Steller CD player would be my vote.
Now that PS Audio has access to SACD drive does that mean the the Octave server will be able to rip SACD to the server to have for playback? Or the SACD transport will the only way to listen to them without getting them ripped? Also you still need a DMP for multi channel SACD play back right?
Yes, sadly Elk’s right. Playing the DSD layer to an outboard DAC is pretty tricky in the first place. Ripping DSD straight from the SACD is a whole different story.
Not a fan of the look alike plastic control pad as used in the standard remote control…Polished push type style buttons or a handsome round control wheel would be much more ecstatically pleasing. The plastic makes for a cheap looking appearance in a $6,500.00 product…imho
Optocouplers have been used in some CD players in the past. My question is how is the output stage galvanicly isolated when the power supply is still common before and after the isolator?
The product page indicates this is in Beta testing, is that correct? Last thing Paul said was Beta testing in September and production units in October. I don’t recall a call for beta testers, so clarification please.
I’ve got the DMP which has functioned, for the most part, quite well. There are some quirky characteristics that I will have to live with if I keep it, but there was mention of a “generous” trade-in allowance so it would be good to know more about that.
I sometimes think optical discs will truly sunset but then I think about how many used CDs must be sold on a typical day.
Aside from a Blu-ray disc player that I used only for video, I’ve not had an optical player for CD/SACD since 2005. However, I still buy ~50 CDs/SACDs a year.
I predict companies will develop and build optical players for years to come.
The question is what mechanics are applied in the new transport and how reliable are they, from a supply chain point of view and technical point of view.
Nobody could have dealt with the situation that Oppo confronted the market with.
But you should understand that the market is nervous about what happened a couple of years ago.
I trust US$ 6500 is a fair price for the new transport.
But as you can read in this thread for most on this forum it is a lot of money. Hope you see the point that when saving up and spending such money, people look for reliable solutions.
With any turntable and transport / disc player I am interested in the mechanics. Most brands reveal details about it. Why don’t you take a look at the Luxman, Esoteric, Accuphase and Pioneer WEB sites and you can see how the mechanics are advertised, sometimes in download documents.
I have a DMP and I am not worried about the future. For a dozen or so dollars, I bought a spare laser. I also have an Oppo 103 that may be an organ donor for DMP, but I don’t think there will be a need for it. Has anyone had a DMP transport failure?
Many people still don’t seem to get the DRM aspect of SACD, which is one of the reasons it failed commercially.
It is a closed system. Using the Sony PS3 jailbreak is illegal.
YOU CANNOT RIP IT, STORE IT EXTERNALLY OR PLAY IT THROUGH A 3RD PARTY PLAYER USING A NON-ENCRYPTED STREAM.
Tell me this is not correct. It is why there does not seem any point in having the transport and DAC in a separate box because legally they have to used as one and you can put just as much isolation in one box as in two.
dCS were the first to use an external SACD transport, and they probably only did so because their DAC comes in three boxes. In their system the DSD data stream goes to the DAC via an encrypted dual-AES connection.
I assume the I2S stream is encrypted? If not, I expect PSA would be in legal jeopardy.
