Thank you for your help and fast replies, @jamesh. I now have a better idea of what is going on and what triggers the freeze.
And it’s reassuring to know that PSA is working on it.
The sound though, with Sunlight, unreal!
Isoldes Liebestood, Birgit Nilsson, Karl Bohm, Orchester der Bayreuther Festpiele … guaranteed goosebumps
Just experienced the same bug. Using I2S input from the PST. The freeze-up occurred while simply advancing through several tracks on the CD in the PST via the “>>” button on the remote and not switching between Redbook and SACD.
Moderately irritating. Hope this is fixed sooner rather than later.
That makes some sense. It seems like pushing a bunch of commands it’s way can clog it up. As mentioned, the team is looking into it.
trying to upgrade firmware to 2.31 on pst it just sits searching for firmware update. its connected and shows internet active----do i have to have the I2s disconnected??
thanks
mike
No, you shouldn’t need to disconnect the I2S cable. Might be worth rebooting the transport and see if that helps. Otherwise it’s always easy to update with the USB drive.
err–while waiting i tried to use the usb drive in the fw slot and followed directions. when it reboots it does not recognize the drive—which i can see on my mac shoing the .bin file. however, when following instructions goes right to the top menu and reads drive. need some help, please. I upgraded it directly the last time through the internet without a hitch
mike
How big of a thumb drive are you using? Try to use the smallest one possible. The unit can have trouble indexing large drives.
I TRIED TWO–THEY WERE 2 and 4 gigs. i am using ms dos fat–on my mac to format. my PST shows firmware 2.2. neither wifi (enabled) or direct internet cable works either. the face just sits there at the searching for update window with the exit overlay as my only choice. something is wrong. It may be me, but I am out of options and need a fresh pair of eyes
thanks
so here is the latest:
I have tried a 1 2 4 gig usb with no results. I have formatted each with either macos or msdos-fat
I have placed the bin file on and went through trying to get the 2.31 update to work–but the drives were not recognized and no update occurs.
I have both wifi and ethernet enabled and when going to the update page all i get is a screen searching for an update for increments of 10, 20 30 min. I have rebooted, unplugged and followed the directions. What am I missing??

We can just go ahead and send you a USB stick with the update on it. Shoot me an email with your address and I’ll get one out to you. jamesh@psaudio.com
Here is a new (at least to me) review of the PW SACD Transport (and its a good one):
Nice review! Can’t wait to get mine.
I must admit I was holding off on this until I saw some reviews. This is the first I have seen, so still not sure…
This is also the first review on PST I saw. Thanks for the posting.
IMHO, the review confirms PST build quality is superb and presenting the CD sound nicely with other DAC. I believe the reviewer will be surprised when PST is pairing with DSDAC (via I2S connection)
I finally took the plunge and bought a new PerfectWave SACD Transport. My trusty original PWT was working well but was limited to CD spinning for me. I was curious to hear how SACD’s would sound from the player compared to steaming various DSD bit rates. Well I’m glad to say that it does sound very good in my system. I recently revised my music storage to a 4TB Western Digital External SSD connected to my Roon Server and this pushed the quality of the streamed music close to the spinner but just short.
Continuing my opinions of the PST, I assumed that it would render SACD’s well. My surprise was my first listen to the lowly CD. I’m amazed at how much musical detail is there and waiting to be heard. It genuinely rivals SACD playback. Right now, I’m really pleased with the purchase.
This is what I thought the first time I heard a CD through it as well. 44.1/16 ain’t half bad.
I wish this review had mentioned the difference between the DMP and the PST.
