Still warm, now no rain, should be a nice day. . . more cold and snow on the way starting tomorrow.
Starting off with an interesting cd. . .
Steve Haines Quintet with Jimmy Cobb “Stickadiboom” Zoho cd
Bassist Steve Haines’ first album as … a quintet date with trumpeter Rob Smith, tenor saxophonist David Lown, pianist Chip Crawford, and drummer Thomas Taylor

One of my favorite Ted Nash cds.
Ted Nash “Portrait In Seven Shades – Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra”
It’s colder this morning. Maybe why Fiona the dachshund let me sleep a few hours longer! Going to be colder still with more rain as the day progresses, and some snow expected. I’m amazed that the 12" or so that was on the ground Sunday has now been washed away from rain and melted from temps in the 'fifties yesterday.
Starting off with
Allen Lowe, “Louis Armstrong’s America Volume 1” disc 2
Fascinating set. Like a bizarro universe at times, but truly involving.
Followed by
“Bill Evans in Norway” Elemental Music cd
Speaking of the weather (Lon), the fog is so thick, I can see nothing out my windows.
So of course I had to hear one particular cut on this album. (I’m a simple man)
It was very foggy here yesterday morning, but clearer this morning.
The fog is in my brain this morning not outside. I think I am not used to so much sleep.
COLD this morning. . . but the snow stopped.
Starting off with disc 15 of this excellent box set:
Duke Ellington The Duke Ellington Centennial Edition: The Complete RCA Victor Recordings (1927-1973)

Gil Melle “Patterns in Jazz” Blue Note 24 bit by RVG lp facsimile cd
One I do not have and shall seek it out.
Mars Williams and Vasco Trilla Critical Mass.
How I miss Mars’ antics and Ayler Xmas performances this time of year.
I managed to sneak in another listening session yesterday but without my laptop handy so I didn’t chronicle it. I listened to the other two discs in the SFJazz Collective Horace Silver set, and one disc of MIles Davis’ “Directions” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2 cd set.
Starting off this morning with this interesting 7th release from Jorge Ben (in 1970) “Brut Forca” on a Philips cd reissue.
It’s a very cold morning with a bit of snow deposited over night. Looking forward to breakfast with Lucy’s sister and brother-in-law, Briget and Dan.

Reaching back to the earliest cd version I have retained of “Miles in Berlin”–the SBM Master Sound lp facsimile version, which is sounding mighty good this morning.
This was the earliest concert of the Quintet with Wayne Shorter released before this year’s box set of recordings in '63 and '64 in France. And it has long been a favorite since the LP version was first released way back when in the US as part of a 2 LP set.
“Miles in Berlin” Sony SRCS 9708 cd
Satoko Fujii Hyaku One Hundred Dreams with a powerhouse line-up: Ingrid Laubrock, Wadada Leo Smith, Sara Schoenbeck, Natsuki Tamura, Ikue Mori, Brandon Lopez, and Chris Corsano.
COLD. But clear, still, beautiful.
Starting off with
Matthias Lupri Group “Window Up, Window Down”
Followed by
Ted Nash “The Mancini Project”
Right about freezing this morning. Compared to the temperature in the teens last week I’ll take it! No precipitation!
Starting off with an intriguing release.
Javier Red’s Imagery Converter “Ephemeral Certainties” Delmark cd
Javier Red: piano; Jake Wark: tenor saxophone; Ben Dillinger: bass; Gustavo Cortiñas: drums.

Art Pepper “The Hollywood All Star Sessions” disc 3
CD 3, #1-3 (Session 3) : Pete Jolly (p), Bob Magnusson (b), Roy McCurdy (Batterie).
CD 3, #3-9 (Session 4) : Sonny Stitt (as), Lou Levy (p), Chuck Domanico (b), Carl Burnett (d).
I’ll have to seek this one out. An album with a cover that beautiful can’t be bad!
