Finally got the snow we had been dodging for days. After shoveling and clearing I made it to the grocers and back and have started some listening.

Another couple of inches over night. Will be shoveling before too long. Sure has made the neighborhood beautiful–a forest covered in snow.

Another FaceBook marketing musician. Sounds like slightly more home-grown Dave Matthews with a touch of Mumford.

No new snow this morning! No shoveling needed! That makes me happy.

A late morning start with what I consider to be a Creative Music classic Cecil Taylor Live at the Cafe Montmartre, featuring Jimmy Lyons and Sunny Murray. This is a most recent ORG LP reissue released for 2024 RSD Black Friday.

About three inches of snow last night, about half or less of what they were “predicting.” I’m not unhappy about that.

Starting off a still, cold morning with. . . .

Stuart Mack “Vibrations” Outside in Music cd

Nice compositions on this one, as well as playing. Impressive debut from this young trumpeter.

The new DSD Mk II firmware is sounding quite good!

Listening to the second disc of this new 2 cd set for the first time. I only wish there were MORE Emily Remler to listen to. She left us too soon.

A quick listen before venturing into the city. I had considered Little Feat Cold, Cold, Cold considering our morning weather, 9F with -17F windchill.

Woke up to more snow. . . over 12" in the last 36 hours, and about 4 inches more to shovel since I last did. Will need to do so in a few hours before meeting in-laws for breakfast. I think we’ll be getting a break for three or four days luckily.

Starting off the day playing

A cold morning–no snow! So happy that we have a few days without the white stuff falling from the sky ahead of us.

Starting off with a disc that arrived from amazon last night.

A stop at the Norwegian for a cuppa-joe and then back home for the Jazzmen Nineteen Sixty-Six. Earliest recording featuring Joe McPhee that I am aware of. Recently released on Corbett vs. Dempsey. Picked up one of the remaining few in the Chicago area at the Corbett vs. Dempsey Gallery on Futon St.

Excellent new release from young pianist Alessandro Lanzoni, with the amazing Francesco Cafiso on alto.

A cold morning, but no snow and the temp has risen above freezing and some melting will occur. Which is great as there is some slippery ice out there! Had a nice neighborhood Xmas party going on last night and had some intriguing conversations with the more liberal neighbors. . . a fun time.

Right now

The Joymakers “Down Where the Bluebonnets Grow” cd

Wow. These Texans nail the authentic acoustic recording era jazz music feel and swing and play so very well. The engineering too brings an authentic full-bodied sound with no deficiency.

I met multi-instrumentalist Colin Hancock who I think is the heart and soul of this band if not the leader. . . an amazing musician.

Wow.

Timeless, important and involving music in one of my favorite issues. A few other listeners say this set is “harsh” and “bloated” in comparison to others, so every day I am thankful for my flexible and adjustable system, espeically the P15 and Decware ZROCK2 components, as I don’t hear that.

Love this music!

Rain and warmer temps today. . . welcome indeed.
