A late start to a warm and rainy morning.
This very well-recorded cd beckoned to me this morning–I’m enjoying re-visiting Ms Claudia’s recordings this month.
Claudia Acuna “Rhythm of Life” Verve cd
Satoko Fujii ma do Heat Wave, a 2008 No Business release. An exceptional performance from this fine quartet. Did I mention the sonics are most satisfying?
Now for that hike through a mesic natural prairie in the area with cliffs overlooking the local river and a nesting pair of eagles in the vicinity.
A bit warm with rain. . .springtime in NE Ohio to a “t.”
I saw this disc in the shelves and it wanted to be played to start the day.
Mark Masters Ensemble “Blue Skylight” Capri cd
Following up with another Masters Ensemble.
Mark Masters Ensemble “Porgy & Bess Redefined” Capri cd
Both these discs are great listens. I’m awake!
Back to the cold, we’re in the yoyo zone of Spring. I got some good sleep and am starting off with Stefon Harris & Blackout “Sonic Creed”
On to
The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra “Live at I.U.C.C. 4/29/79”
Cold this morning, but should be warmer later today. Looking forward to a few good walks!
Starting off with an intriguing 2 cd set that I really enjoy, Joel Ross and Mark Turner being standouts.
Jason Palmer “The Concert: 12 Musings For Isabella” disc 2
On Satoko Fujii/Paul Bley Something About Water student meets master on 8 piano duos. Satoko had been Paul’s student at the Boston Conservatory of Music. I believe this 1996 recording may possibly be her first.
Starting a warm morning by re-listening to this one. I really like the All Star sessions on this label. I have them all except the “Bongos” one. . . I’m correcting that.
Hip Bop Essence Allstars “Afrocubano Chant Two”
And this arrived in the mail yesterday, I’ve been waiting for it. . . .
Yazz Ahmed “A Paradise In The Hold = هناكَ جنةٌ في مخزن السفينة” Night Time Stories cd
I’m awake now!
Norma Winstone “Somewhere Called Home” ECM cd
A cold front is due today, even bringing snow. Sight. We have about a month of “yo-yo weather” before us.
Starting off with piano, voice and clarinet.
On to
Jaxon Palmer “Live from Summit Rock in Seneca Village” CD Baby cd
Jason Palmer trumpet, tenor saxophonist Mark Turner, bassist Edward Perez and drummer Johnathan Blake.
Listening to disc 1, all music composed by Jobim. Not familiar with much of Jobim’s music, but this seems pretty great to me (Down Beat’s review was pretty negative for some reason).
Been a long, very long time since I listened to Norma Winstone. I vaguely recall a pure unique voice.
Bud Powell Chez Francois Paris 1962 - 1964 a home recording released on the french Sam Records label, capturing Bud’s approach and state of mind in the early sixties. Interesting, but hardly essential.
Cold. Snow on the ground. Darn!
George Benson “Beyond the Blue Horizon” CTI/Mosaic Records cd
Following up with
Horace Tapscott, Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra
“Live at I.U.C.C. 5/27/79” disc 1
One of my favorite volumes in the 11 volume series.
