Warm again! Starting off with
Chet Baker “The Complete Timeless Records Albums Collection” disc 1, Kirk Lightsey’s “Everything Happens to Me”
On to
“Classic Vanguard Jazz Piano Sessions” Mosaic Records box set, disc 2
Sir Charles Thompson Quartet! Bobby Henderson solo piano!
Starting the platter party later today.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Monk lately. Almost a binge. A happy binge though.
We managed to dodge some high winds last night by a whisker. . . a bit warm, but rainy, day ahead.
Starting off with some Chet.
Chet Baker “Live in Rosenheim / Chet Baker’s Last Recording as a Quartet” Timeless Records cd
From this box set:
Picked this up in the windy city Friday with afternoon temperatures at 83F. Just Sunday I was in a snow storm with six inch accumulations.
Regarding Don Patterson Patterson’s People Don and drummer Billy James in trio format alternate between Booker Ervin and Sonny Stitt on this most fine VG+ Prestige stereo pressing. Recommended by a friend an local DJ who favored the Hammond B3 Organ, Patterson’s People has been on my short list for sometime.
Prior to an evenings dinner and attending the Satoko Fujii Tokyo Trio Friday I had a few minutes to check out a Signal Records near or planned dining spot, Superkhana. Picked up a NM copy of the Cobblestone Records release, Sonny Stitt Constelllation. Constellation and Tune-up are top of the heap regarding “contemporary be-bop”, and Sonny’s best, which is saying a lot.
I should add Satoko performed at Chicago’s Constellation, and the performance was superb. The Trio is on their way to NYC for a recording session.
Every edition of the five I have heard sounds great–the source recording is excellent.
Starting off a soggy morning with some excellent music from the “Classic Vanguard Jazz Piano Sessions” Mosaic box set, disc III.
All Mel Powell sessions. I have loved this music for many years, just so swinging and smart.
Now. . . .
Funking it up a bit.
Javon Jackson “Have you Heard?”
Rain has passed and weather is lovely today. It’s a classical morning here starting with Alice Sara Ott performing John Field’s Complete Nocturnes.
Barre Phillips and Gyorgy Kurtage jr. Face a Face. The essence of the ecm sound, “the most beautiful sound next to silence”.
Actually a nice workout for your system.
I need to pull this one up.
Some feisty music to start the day.
Charles Mingus “Oh Yeah” Atlantic/Analogue Productions SACD
Damn this sounds really really good!
On to
Gil Evans “Out of the Cool” Impulse reissue LP
Thanks. I’ll check that out.
