First music of the day

A great album. AP remaster sounds excellent.

An excellent choice. You may enjoy either of the above, Don Patterson, Booker Ervin and Sonny Stitt.

It was a hot night but it’s cooler this morning thank goodness.

Starting off with an interesting cd that I haven’t heard in a while, Brazilian drummer (and Joyce’s husband) Tutty Moreno, “Forcas D’Alma” Sons de Bahia cd

Alto Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Clarinet – Nailor Proveta
Bass – Rodolfo Stroeter
Drum – Tutty Moreno
Piano – André Mehmari
Vocals, Guitar – Joyce
Orchestral accompaniment on several tracks

A nice jazz outing, hitting the right spot this morning.

On to

Miles Davis “Milestones” Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab STEREO SACD

This stereo SACD sounds so much better than any other stereo version of “Milestones” I’ve heard. And the music is among my favorite jazz of all time.

Wow. Now I’m awake.

There are SACD “naysayers” here but on my PS Audio transport and DAC duos these Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Miles SACDs sound superb.

An early morning watering the lawn as for June it has been rather dry in these parts.
Jackie McLean 'bout Soul a Blue Note SHM-CD pushes boundaries touching on mid-60’s avant-garde. Not a typical hard bop session, or a soul jazz session that one may expect from the title and the label. Woody Shaw is especially fine on 'bout Soul.

Heh, listened to that yesterday!

…and I continue with Theme From A Symphony (Variation One) ear worm.

Starting off a nice cool morning with some old time music from various bands Jack Purvis led or played lead trumpet within. Purvis was a great trumpeter influenced by Pops, and I confess that over the years I’ve come to enjoy the 'twenties/early 'thirties dance and pop music as odd sounding as it is today.

“Jack Purvis Recorded in New York 1925-1935” Jazz Oracle 3 cd set, disc 1

Jazz Oracle is a great label–I have nearly every one of their releases.

On to

More material from the “Live at the Lighthouse” Henderson Milestone album.

Woody Shaw Joe Henderson “Jazz Patterns” Everest/Real Gone Music LP

Very cool vinyl label

Having just finished a morning bike ride I dropped Jason Stein The Story This Time. It kicks off with the Warne Marsh free wheeling bopish number Background Music. Clearly they are enjoying them selves on this one, they being Jason Stein bass clarinet, Keefe Jackson tenor sax and contrabass clarinet, Joshua Abrams bass, and Frank Rosaly drums.

Speaking of Joshua Abrams I may drop in to the Constellation Saturday as Joshua Abrams, Lisa Alvarado, Jim Baker, Micheal Zerang and Hamid Drake are playing.

A rainy morning. Doesn’t bode well for our outdoor event this afternoon but we’re going with fresh signs.

One of my favorite “tribute” albums to Monk. The ringer original “Blue Hawk” is excellent.

Tim Warfield :Spherical–Dedicated to Thelonious Sphere Monk" Criss Cross cd. This is where I first was impressed with Orrin Evans’ playing.

Tim Warfield (Ts / Ss)
Eddie Henderson (Tp)
Orrin Evans (P)
Ben Wolfe (B)
Clarence Penn (D)

No Kings!

Haven’t listened to this in a long time, good nudge.

Had trouble sleeping and decided to do a little listening.

Right now
Angelo Verploegen Quintet “A Handful of Stories” Just Listen Records cd

Angelo Verploegen (flügelhorn), Nils van Haften (saxophones), Marc van Roon (piano), Guus Bakker (double bass), Jasper van Hulten (drums)

Followed by

Horace Tapscott, Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra
“Live at I.U.C.C. 9/30/79” Nimbus West cd

One of the most interesting in the series (for me).

Hoping for a quiet, relaxing Father’s Day

Attended a Joshua Abrams/ Hamid Drake concert last night and learned of South African drummer Louis Moholo-Moholo, passing on Friday. The ensemble played an hour long tribute to the influential percussionist. Quite the night.

A beautiful early morning. Lucinda and I had a wonderful dinner last night and long conversation with the older of my two brothers and his wife. Felt so good to be spending time with them.

Charles Mingus “The Lost Album from Ronnie Scott’s” disc 3

A stretching out of great material by great musicians.

And now

Bill Evans “Further Ahead: Live in Finland 1964-1969” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 1
