First music of the day

Anna Webber Idiom double CD on PI Recordings. Idiom offers the Simple Trio recorded at the Firehouse, and a Larger ensemble also recorded at the Firehouse. Simple Trio is Matt Mitchell - piano, John Hollenbeck - drums, and Anna Webber - tenor saxophone.

Going to be a hot one. Taking advantage of the cool of the early morning for some listening.

First off
Grateful Dead, Winterland, San Francisco, CA (3/20/77) disc 1

From the “Enjoying the Ride” box set.

On to

One for All “Incorrigible” Jazz Legacy Productions cd

Bass – John Webber
Drums – Joe Farnsworth
Piano – David Hazeltine
Tenor Saxophone – Eric Alexander
Trombone – Steve Davis
Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Jim Rotondi

That is a fun one, but to my mind Bill Frisell is capable of more. I do miss his earlier more experimental forays. Great cover to boot!

Van Morrison The Prophet Speaks, the titular song offering a nice jazzy undertone.

A slightly humid pleasantly warm morning. Got my chores out of the way, now I’m settling in for a bit of listening time. My system has been sounding bewitchingly great this week!

Bill Evans “Further Ahead: Live in Finland 1964-1969” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 1

I really like this one. . . playing it once more before putting it back on the shelf.

Now on to disc 2

I spent the entire decade of the 90’s living and working in Finland. Just a “few years” after this recording was made

I’ll bet that was something. I was living in Philadelphia as a lad when most of this was recorded, but when the final, 1969, concert was recorded I was living in M’Babane, Swaziland (now Eswatini), and I had not yet discovered Bill Evans. Wouldn’t be long though. . . .

First discovered on a forum thread here, Neil Cowley Trio Entity, starts art somewhat atmospheric. Well recorded to boot.

Whew. . . it finally quit raining. And it’s cool. Nice!

Starting off with some mellow Dead.

Grateful Dead, Winterland, San Francisco, CA (3/20/77) disc 2

From the “Enjoying the Ride” 60th Anniversary box set

Tim Warfield Quintet “Gentle Warrior” Criss Cross cd

The rain from yesterday has stopped and it’s nice and cool. Starting off with some very entertaining music from the early 'Seventies.

Gary Bartz NTU Troop “Harlem Bush Music - Taifa / Harlem Bush Music - Uhuru” Beat Goes Public cd

Followed by something very different. Bill Evans Trio “You’re Going to Hear From Me” Milestone cd

Bill Evans on piano, Eddie Gomez on bass, and Marty Morell on drums, recorded at the Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen in 1969

I think the club may have been empty. Often a very "hole in the middle recording.

Great listen during my morning walk.

Decided to start early as it’s cool and it is going to be hot this afternoon!

This was in the transport and I’m playing it again–a great disc in a set of three great discs!

Charles Mingus “The Lost Album From Ronnie Scott’s,” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 3

I was listening in awe and imagining how amazing it would be if each of the 1964 European tour releases were recorded and mastered with such clarity.

Continuing on into the 60th Anniversary box set, “Enjoying the Ride” . . . .

Grateful Dead, Winterland, San Francisco, CA (3/20/77) disc 3

Beautiful morning, beautiful album.

Great picture of Garcia, atypical expression, nonetheless great!
