First music of the day

A deliciously cool morning–57 degrees!

I spun this again to listen to the bonus material, which sounds great on this issue.

Duke Ellington “. . .And His Mother Called Him Bill” Sony Legacy cd

Now on to

Wow! Disc 2

Jethro Tull “Still Living in the Past” box set

Nice music to wake up to. Nice sounding album.

Another stuffy morning!
Re-visiting this one this morning. . . I like it a lot, though I confess I could do without a lot of the guitar effects.

Adam O’Farrill “For These Streets” Out of Your Heads cd

Adam O’Farrill trumpet, Kevin Sun tenor sax, David Leon alto sax, Kalun Leung trombone, Mary Halvorson guitar, Patricia Brennan vibes, Tyrone Allen II bass, Thomas Fujiwara drums

Now on to some Dead

Continuing on in the “Enjoying the Ride” 60th Anniversary box set.

Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY (2/20/71)

Put this Blue Note Classic LP on the Sondek this morning as balloons drift by across the lake. They are trying to get yet another run in prior to this week’s EAA , as the skies tend to fill up with all sorts of “birds”.
Really like the groove on Dr. Lonnie Smith Turning Point, with Melvin Sparks, Lee Morgan, Bennie Maupin, Julian Priester, Frank Gauna, and Leo Morris.

Slept in late this morning. Hardly never happens, feels a bit weird!

It got really cool last night–it’s 56 degrees right now!

Listening to Bob Dylan “The Cutting Edge Collector’s Edition” disc 12

An even cooler morning–52 degrees! I have to get ready to take Lucinda in for a minor surgery. . . and have to gear up to be nurse-maid for a bit. Sigh.

Starting off with. a nice mellow listen.

Woody Herman Ruby Braff “It had to be Us” Chiaroscuro cd

Cornet – Ruby Braff
Drums – Jake Hanna

Bob Dylan “The Cutting Edge Collector’s Edition” disc 14

Ah. . the “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands”

Having replaced my first copy as side D in the middle of the last track Straight Life had a pressing dimple, thus tracking it was problematic. Straight Life is an Art Pepper favorite of mine, and this version is pretty good, even though Art sounds as though he is having an issue with his embouchure. The replacement also has a dimple in the same spot, but apparently is not as severe as it tracks just fine. An excellent set, BTW.

He was definitely not a smooth talker. He sounded groggy talking the audience.

I assumed it was a combination of jet lag and a rigorous touring schedule, as he mentioned lack of sleep. This album has been a bit of a sleeper for me. His band is spot on, and Art’s playing is just fine.

Not quite as cool as yesterday, but a sweet, still morning. My wife is sleeping well after a stressful day. I’m enjoying the opportunity to listen.

Starting off with an LP from the shelves downstairs,
“Ruby Braff with the Ed Bickert Trio” Sackville LP. Great song choices!

Bass, Recorded By – Don Thompson
Drums – Terry Clarke
Guitar – Ed Bickert
Trumpet – Ruby Braff

Recorded at Puget Sound, Toronto on June 14, 1979.

Wow! I have to find this one. I love those guys.

It’s out there. I got a sealed copy really well-priced from Philadelphia Music, one of my favorite online sources, but they don’t have another copy at the moment.

Just ordered on Discogs.
