The air having a significant blue tinge to it this morning implies yet another poor air quality day in Central Wisconsin. At sunrise our air quality was at 118. This is a great late night album. . . and Ms. Horn is always a great musical companion. My two new Verafi Audio products are really shining as they season in. Ah!
Shirley Horn “The Main Ingredient” Verve cd Recorded at Shirley Horn’s home.
Her rendition of “Over the Rainbow” is especially tender — slowed down, introspective, and tinged with longing — transforming the familiar standard into something hauntingly personal.
If you enjoy Norah Jones or Madeleine Peyroux but want something even more atmospheric and orchestral, this album is a perfect fit.
