First music of the day

Ran the air and caught up on some sleep. Really enjoying the chance to start the day with music. Music steadily becomes more and more important to me.

Chose this upbeat drive of a disc to start off the day.

One for All “Upward and Onward” Criss Cross cd

ON TO. . . .

Bob Dylan “The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - 1965-1966 The Cutting Edge Collector’s Edition” disc 14

Oh that sad-eyed lady of the lowlands!

A hot night, a stuffy morning. Summer is in full force here in NE Ohio.

Grateful Dead 60th Anniversary box set, “Enjoying the Ride”

Deer Creek Music Center, Noblesville, IN (7/15/89) disc 1

On to. . . .

Miles Davis “Sorcerer” Mobile Fidelity Labs SACD

OMG, Tony Williams! I remember being so inspired by his playing when I first discovered this album decades ago–this is a great showcase for his amazing talent. (And also a testament to the excellent engineering on this album).

Going to be a hot one.

Starting off with Gary Burton “Lofty Fake Anagram” RCA/Sony Japan cd

From 1967, with a great quartet: Gary Burton vibes, Larry Coryell guitar, Steve Swallow bass and Bob Moses drums..

On to another wonderful vibraphonist’s work.

Joel Ross “Parable of the Poet” Blue Note cd

Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone, Maria Grand on tenor saxophone, Marquis Hill on trumpet, Kalia Vandever on trombone, Sean Mason on piano, Rick Rosato on bass, Craig Weinrib on drums, and special guest Gabrielle Garo on flute.

One of the best releases imo of this decade.

Nilson Matta “Green Heart”

A nice album by this Brazilian bassist that suits this quiet, finally cool morning.

And now

Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead “Come Down to that old Jail Cell” Rehearsals for their tour, 6 cd set, disc 2

As a former band member I like listening to rehearsals. Not sure why. . . .

This is fascinating stuff for me. Lots of great Garcia playing in my estimation.

I don’t know anyone else who likes to listen to alternate takes as do I.

A stuffy morning. Slept well though, there’s that. A busy day ahead with chores et al.

Right now, starting off with a bit of modern mainstream.

Off to Boulder Junction, a hikinh kind of thing. In the mean time Black Keys Thickfreakness, reminds me of Junior KImbrough’s raw approach.

Late morning start after late night finish in NYC.

A wonderfully cool morning after a hot day.

Starting off with the second half of this release, didn’t get to fully digest it yesterday. Excellent music and sound.

Joel Ross “Who Are You?” Blue Note cd

On to

Carmen McRae “Carmen Sings Monk”

Like Betty Carter Ms McRae recorded some amazing albums right before her passing, this perhaps the best of them.

A perfect marriage of music and singer.

Another wake up jolt

A stuffy and still morning. I couldn’t sleep much more so I got up and started a new project: putting cds into binders. A lot of work!

Started off listening to:

There should have been an album “Everybody Digs Wes!”

Now playing a collaboration between Wes and his brothers, “Montgomeryland” with Harold Land and an album reorded with Pony Poindexter.

“Montgomeryland” Poll Winners cd

On to

Another disc from the “Enjoying the Ride” Grateful Dead box set.

Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY (9/16/87) disc 3

Just the discs or in the cases?

Discs, all paperwork (tray cards folded), jewel cases recycled.

I have storage issues in my small home and hope over the next months to work on reducing the size or eliminating my storage unit. Going to have sell drum kits etc. So much work for an old man.

I got rid of jewel cases long ago. I use padded, zippered nylon cases which are excellent.
Condo dweller here so I understand the need for minimalism.
