I hear you—but for me it’s the opposite. Nashville Skyline is probably my most played Dylan. There’s a calm, easy feel to it that just stays with me.
That’s cool, I understand that, I just prefer all that came before and after–my first Dylan purchase was “Self Portrait” (when first released) so I enjoy the idea of Nashville Skyline but it leaves me cold.
An electric piano, Rhodes or otherwise, is anathema to me. Chick Corea? Well, maybe but nobody else.
Myself I love electric piano. I used to have a Wurlitzer. . . so much fun to play, especially when you can make it sort of growl by being really percussive. ![]()
Electric piano takes me straight to the Starlight Lounge at the Holiday Inn.
I’ve never been to one of those. I’ve been listening to electric piano ever since “In A Silent Way” and “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” and “John Barleycorn Must Die”. . . love the funky thickness of its sound. Five decades plus of loving electric piano.
Wamrth has returned for a few days! A nice change of pace. I wish I could have slept longer but I woke up and my mind was restless, so it’s time for music, now that the owl in the hemlock by the bedroom window has stopped hooting.
Starting off with Dexter as some of my jazz pals were listening to him a lot yesterday.
Dexter Gordon “Live at Chateauvallon 1978” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 2
Lots of feeling coming out of the horn from Dexter that night.
Now on to an old favorite.
Miles Davis “In Tokyo–Live in Concert” Sony Blu-Spec CD2
Sam Rivers with Miles . . .I hope in time Sony will officially release the other Japan concerts with Sam Rivers.
Warm again. I could get used to this!
Starting off with disc IX of “The Columbia & RCA Victor Live Recordings of Louis Armstrong & The All-Stars”
Now
Albare “Beyond Belief” AIFI cd
Some Les Paul slinging jazz feels just right right now.
Interesting defect on this cd: in the seventh track there is a series of tones for about two seconds that sound like someone’s incoming smart phone call alert, LOUD.
We had a tornado watch last night, we were ready to dash down into the root cellar but luckily though we had a brief gust of high wind there was no real tornado and ho harm to any structures around, and no treefalls close. We didn’t even lose power, a blessing. We srue did get rain though, tons of rain. And it’s warm this morning.
Moving deeper into this box set, it’s just so full of joyous music and personality.
Starting off with disc IV
Louis Armstrong - Live Recordings With The All-Stars - Mosaic Records
70 degrees. . . and the second tunderstorm of the morning. Supposedly it will be a nice day. . . eventually.
Starting off the day with Grateful Dead “Dave’s Picks Vol. 14” disc 1. This is the final US concert before they shipped off for that Eupropean tour in 1972.
Now on to
Joyce “Music Inside” Verve Forecast cd
Recorded and mixed at Studio 900, NYC. 1990
Early Joyce, quite nice for a quiet morning.
Cool morning, going to be a beautiful day. Starting the day off with the cool, beautiful sound of Barney Wilen.
“The Osaka Concert” Trema cd.
Barney with Laurent De Wilde, Giles Naturel, and Peter Gritz.
Very nice release that I was surprised to realize came out 27 years ago.
Next
Disc V!
Really enjoying re-visiting this box set of All Star performances.
Louis Armstrong - Live Recordings With The All-Stars - Mosaic Records…
“The Columbia & RCA Victor Live Recordings of Louis Armstrong & The All-Stars” Mosaic Records 9 cd set.
A little sore this morning; I got roped into the removing of all items and carpet in one of the bedrooms we have been using to store things and a part of my collection so we can repaint the room. Going to be about three more days of work. . . looking forward to that being over.
Starting off a warm monring with a newly released Albert Ayler cd. A good time of day to grasp the order in the chaos.

Gil Melle “Patterns in Jazz” Blue Note Japan 24 Bit by RVG lp facsimile cd
This is an amazing sounding disc and a great batch of music.
Gil Melle with Eddie Bert, Joe Cinderella, Oscar Pettiford and Ed Thigpen.
The cold is back! Yesterday afternoon about 5 while I was just getting going restoring all my collection to the newly re-painted and re-furbished bedroom downstairs. . . Lucy fell in the living room and dislocated her left shoulder. Four hours spent in the ER got it back in place. . . it was so awful to see her in so much pain for too long but she’s sleeping comfortably right now. Hopefully she’ll be taking it easy, and I can complete the task of putting all the piles of books and cds and LPs into the shelving again today.
Really miss listening. . . starting today off with a new arrival, the excellent In and Out cd of Randy Weston Big Band, “Montreux Jazz Festival 1985”–the third of the new Weston releases to hit my home. It sounds great!
On to
Dave Holland “Jumpin’ In” ECM cd
All Dave Holland compositions save one by Steve Coleman.
Steve Coleman – alto saxophone, flute
Kenny Wheeler – trumpet, pocket trumpet, cornet, fluegelhorn
Julian Priester – trombone
David Holland – acoustic bass, cello
Steve Ellington – drums
What a blessing a great system is. A warm, still, quiet morning. After absorbing the silence a bit I started off re-listening to “Jazz for Playboys” which was my last listen of yesterday and now I’m on to Nat King Cole “The Billy May Sessions” 2 cd set on Capitol, disc 1.
I haven’t listened to big band Nat for a while and it is really a great way to introduce the day.
Nat, Billy May and Johnnie Ray.
Now
I can’t stay away from Brazilian music for long. This is a really nice cd.
Duduka Du Fonseca “Samba-Jazz-Jazz Samba”
Another warm morning. Slept well. My two closest “snow bird” neighbors are now back from the South, but it’s still eerily quiet early mornings with the wind in the trees the predominant sound, a soothing familiar sound. It will soon be eleven years I’ve been out here in this sylvan world.
Spinning OUTOF./INTO “Motion I” Blue Note cd. This is an ensemble of current masters that delivers!
Now
Enjoyed disc 1 yesterday and enjoying disc 2 now. Not the biggest Billy May fan but it’s Nat who is the star and what a personality of a vocalist he was, gone too soon!
Nat King Cole “The Billy May Sessions” 2 cd set on Capitol, disc 2 .
