First music of the day

Understood, for me big fan of Jazz 24 and San Diego 88.4, and Fm91 Toronto (mostly Dinner Jazz).

for Classical, still digging for finding a good one on the web.

that how I discover good recording with my Shazam friend! for my future purchase.

Would that be a great ad to maestro app, since Jazz 24 provide a direct link for streaming!

Starting off a rainy day with this awesome Carmen McRate cd on Concord, “You’re Looking at Me (A Collection of Nat King Cole Songs)” John Collins plays excellent guitar here, a key Nat Cole alumnus.

On to

Excellent mono sound and great performances on Yusef Lateef “Alight Upon The Lake: Live at the Jazz Showcase” Resonance Records 2 cd set

Took a cold walk with Tobi as dawn was coming in. . . enjoyed the quiet neighborhood, at least until a barrage of turkeys from the forest across from us broke the quiet!

Started off with Grateful Dead “Dave’s Picks Vol.16” the third disc, the awesome final set Springfield, MA, on March 28, 1973. Garcia’s guitar sound was excellent this night!

if you choose one of the those reissues of the Dead, you pick?

Which reissues are you referring to–there are so many. I like the Dead from the beginning through ‘78 or so (I dont’ really listen to them after the Donna and Keith left). My favorite year would be 1972 so I guess I would prioritize that year in a release.

Man the system sounds great this morning. I haven’t had enough time to listen lately, that may be part of why it sounds so good, but it really does.

It’s cold right now, but should be 71 today, so more spring-like than the weekend. I’m starting off with Louis Armstrong on Chronogical Classic “1944-1946” which is an awesome disc with V-Disk, Decca and Victor sides in excellent sound.

On to a great Brubeck album.

Dave Brubeck Quartet “Jazz Impressions of Eurasia” Columbia mono LP

This sounds really good in mono.

Cooler and soggier today. Tobi our new dog will not be happy about that. He is more reactive to rain and storms than any other dog I’ve had. But he’ll get through.

Starting off with a great Wayne Escoffery album, “Alone,” on Smoke Sessions cd. Beautiful sound and delicate interplay. A great opener for the day.

Now

Bill Evans Trio “Portraits at the Penthouse: Live in Seattle” Resonance cd

1966 with Eddie Gomez and Joe Hunt.

Very nice imo.

Starting off a cool morning with disc 2 of Yusef Lateef “Alight Upon The Lake: Live at the Jazz Showcase” Resonance Records 3 cd set

This is so far my favorite of the new Resonance releases. Kenny Barron really delivers on this one.

Now

Wow, great sound.

Miles Davis 'Round About Midnight, Sony 2 SACD set in 7" packaging 2026 release, disc 1

Cold, soggy morning again. Up early due to an appointment, starting off with a nice Randy Weston trio session.

Randy Weston “Get Happy” Riverside/OJC cd

Good choice.

I don’t know how to describe their music

But my soul today feel a bit like!

this is a live album so the sound is not quite accurate

There studio album sound a bit better

Even colder this morning than last! Better than too hot for me at least.

Started off with the SHM-SACD of John Coltrane “Live at the Village Vanguard.” Great sound! Timeless music.

On to a new arrival, the Elemental Records cd of Bill Evans “At the BBC.” Great performances from Bill with Chuck Israels and Larry Bunker. The sound . . . this one is one of the worst sounding of the RSD Evans releases. Distortion is the worst sin, the original recordings seem deficient.

Another cold morning!

Benny Goodman “Different Version Vols 1 & 2 – 40 Alternate Takes Of Recordings 1939 to 1940” Phontastic 2 cd set, disc 2

Excellent mastering on this set. Goodman was really a force at this time, and his arrangers were writing interesting tableaux for his playing.

A warmer morning! Should be a beautiful day. We’re due for another!

Starting off with “Motion II” by Out of/Into which is a great “supergroup” of jazzers now on the scene.

Gerald Clayton, Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross, Kendrick Scott, Matt Brewer

On to

I’ve been neglecting “In A Silent Way”–it’s been too long since I’ve spun this one. I’m listening to the Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.

Warm morning, a bit stuffy. Looking forward to a walk with Tobi soon. Starting off with Chet Baker, “Young Chet,” compilation cd on Pacific Jazz cd.

Followed by

When I pulled out the Sidney Bechet Mosaic to play this one was right alongside so I relocated it to the upstairs as well.

This was only available on LP, and it’s a great set in many ways.

“Complete Mosaic Johnny Hodges Sessions 1951-1955” LP 1

Rain, rain, rain–our dog is not happy.

Starting with disc 2 of this one, the Quartet with Astrud.

Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto: Live At The Berlin Jazztage 1966

We went to sleep early and I woke up early, my brain started and wouldn’t stop, so I’m up listening to music.

I got this two UHQCD set in from The Lost Recordings in Switzerland yesterday and I’ve long wanted to hear these recordings. With Lou Levy (and the great bassist Max Bennett) these recordings sound very similar to the studio recordings recorded at the time by Stan with Lou at the piano. Great playing, excellent sound (purportedly from the original tapes for the first time) and a great way to start the day. UHQCD 1.

“Stan Getz at Zardi’s” 2 UHQCD set

Now

Re-visiting this very interesting 2 cd set of Nichols music . . . .

Fay Victor “Herbie Nichols SUNG: Life Is Funny That Way”

Fay Victor: voice, lyrics, arrangements, bandleader
Michaël Attias: alto & baritone saxophones
Anthony Coleman: piano
Ratzo Harris: bass
Tom Rainey: drums

Another cool morning. Going to hit 50 today. Good day to work outside.

Starting off with Yes, Tales from Topographic Oceans, Super Deluxe Edition disc 7. This disc features “Single Edits” made by Steven Wilson that I find quite interesting.
