First music of the day

Yes, I listened to Yes, and the earliest King Crimson and some Gentle Giant. . . but Miles pulled me into jazz about the time that I returned from six years in Africa to rural Ohio. . . I felt completely disconnected from America until I got into jazz and eventually that just consumed all my musical interest.

After listening to “On the Corner” I went off on a thought tangent of how important bass players were to the Miles Davis ensembles, and how he had innovative and important players anchoring his music for long stretches. Paul Chambers. . . just an amazing player in all facets of bass playing. Then Ron Carter, who was so flexible and propulsive, and then Michael Henderson who has always captivated and intrigued me, a rock and also a hard place in the best way within the music. These three are present in so much of the music that really drew me deeply into jazz.

Returned to Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity which John Cussak’s film is based reminded me of VU and Oh! Sweet Nothin’. Loaded reaches for the pop market with the Velvet moving to Atlantic sans Maureen Tucker and John Cale.

hey there

Thanks, I forgot about that one and I found out when I go on Music there’s plenty of live of the group so I put them in my discovery playlist!

Thanks again

Sad and Beautiful World

Yet another early morning with a pre-sunrise wake-up call from our nesting pair of loons. They had been calling through the night, pre-sunset to just to the point of the sun breaking the eastern horizon. Now for some Brain Damage, and an early morning paddle about the lake. The loons have been known to follow my wife as she rows the lake in her scull.
