First music of the day

Cloudy morning, and my walk with the dogs the mosquito has appeared to bug me! It’s that time of the year that we know because of the bugs that summer is getting close. Yesterday read it appeared this spring is one of the coldest from the last 20 years!

No big assault from bugs here yet, this is my favorite time of the year because we have cool mornings and warm afternoons and evenings, just how I would arrange weather if I could.

Starting off this morning re-listening to LP 2 of this excellent box set. Love to hear Art Hodes piano support and solos.

Complete Blue Note Recordings Of Sidney Bechet

An early obsession, Sargasso Sea.

Just because.

hi @weedeewop

Welcome back

Had a wonderful day with the older of my two brothers yesterday and my sister-in-law. A great meal outdoors and had fun introducing them to Tobi, our new dog, who is a great companion.

Nice cool quiet morning, I’m starting off with Stanley Turrentine “Up at Minton’s Vol. 1” Blue Note Japan 24 Bit by RVG cd.

On to disc 3 of this recent reissue. This set sounds wonderful on my system.

Bill Evans “Haunted Heart–The Legendary Riverside Recordings” Riverside/Craft 3 cd set

Jon Hassell/Brian Eno Fourth World Vol. #4 Possible Musics ties in nicely with an earlier Saturday listen of Talking Heads Remain in Light; specifically, Houses in Motion.

A fine follow-up to Stanley Turrentine Up At “Minton’s” Vol. 2, a most fine sounding 45 RM double LP Blue Note Music Matters reissue. The Analog Productions 45 RPM LP reissue of Stanley Turrentine Up at “Minton’s” Vol. 1 is no slouch either.

Hello dcm.

Another cool morning. Quiet, dry, peacefull.

Starting off with Jimmy Heath Sextet “The Thumper + The Quota” Solar Records cd

Riverside recordings. . . good stuff.

Next

Benny Goodman, “The Different Version Vol. 2 1941” Phontastic 2 cd set disc 1

Continuing with my revisitation of Benny Goodman recordings. He was quite the bandleader!

Such a fan of Goodman, so hard to find original recording, most of it, cheap best of!

love those small and big orchestra!

only have found 2 vinyl from him!

thanks for sharing!

A tip of the hat to @jghughes2 for suggesting the above. Dusty Groove came through with their typical efficiency and this arrived yesterday. An excellent 2024 live duo set featuring Myra Melford and Satoko Fujii.

A cool morning, suprsingly I got two extra hours of sleep.

Jonathan Blake “The Eleventh Hour” Sunnyside cd

On to

Les McCann “Never A Dull Moment! Live From Coast To Coast (1966-1967)” Resonance Records 2 cd set, disc 2

Goes well with my first cup of coffee.

I listen to Marilyn Crispell Circles as the mist rises from the lake in the morning stillness. Joining Marilyn are saxophonists Oliver Lake and Peter Buettner, bassist Reggie Workman, and percussionist Gerry Hemingway. Marilyn has an upcoming performance at Madison’s North Street Cabaret June 12. Joining her will be Jason Stein, Damon Smith, and Adam Shed.

Upcoming Bluestem Jazz Events

Today is “Ode to Billie Joe” day.

Darn it’s good to wake up and spin music, the system sounds so good these days. Nice cool, quiet morning.

Starting off with Chico Hamilton Quintet “Truth” on Fresh Sound cd. A very interesting group of recordings, short and sweet.

On to "Eje Thelin At The German Jazz Festival 1964’ Dragon cd

Eje Thelin on trombone, Ulf Andersson on tenor, Joel Vendroogenbroek on piano and flute, Roman Dylag on bass, and Rune Carlsson on drums. Adventurous music that reminds me of the Miles Davis Quintet of the time in modal exploration.

Wonderful new release on the excellent Red Hook records label.

Jason Moran: piano
BlankFor.ms: electronics, tape loops, processing
Marcus Gilmore: drums
