Seek out an early Capital mono pressing, you won’t be disappointed. I also have the 2018 double LP stereo reissue from Capital which isn’t too shabby.
Nice cover of Bag’s Groove on Eric Dolphy The Complete Uppsala Concert Volume 1. The Uppsala set features a solid Swedish rhythm section supporting Eric.
Dig that cover!
There is a vinyl release on the Unlock label (Germany) that includes a bonus 7" record with an additional song, In the House of No Lord:
I actually do have a mono which was my father’s. It’s mint and very precious to me and gets rarely played.
Sound is not great. The piano is a bit distorted. But I have an unopened copy just in case something happens to this one. This is one of my most played albums. hmmm…
Sonically it is no stunner. I picked up a MoFi silver label of it hoping for an improvement. Nope! No worries as I too enjoy the performance which ultimately is what matters to these ears.
Ah yes, Little Feat. I started my Little Feat journey somewhere in the middle of their releases, with Last Record Album, an appropriate title. As subsequent releases didn’t do much for me. Last Record Album had me searching for previous releases, all of them are now in my collection. There is no best Little Feat release, but the following are highly regarded by my Linn Sondek;
Little Feat
Sailin’ Shoes
Dixie Chicken
Feats Don’t Fail Me Now
Last Record Album
Waiting for Columbus
The recent release of the 1974 dates, Electrif Lycanthrope, is a keeper as well, maybe not up to the standard of Waiting for Columbus.
Two exceptional first listens posted directly above for today!
Mine is not of my own doing as a friend suggested it by text early this morning. I admit it is a fine starter for the day Danish guitarist Jakob Bro. A trilogy resulted, Balladeering, Time, and December Song, that were favorably reviewed and resulted in various awards including the all important Nordic Council Music Prize.
A fine way to start one’s day. I searched Qobuz approaching it as not likely offered. Happily the entire series is available, and now in my queue, The Complete Mozart Piano Sonatas 1-15.
An offering from John Adams that got by me, but resolved as I have added it to my Qobuz library.
She has a nice touch at the keyboard.
The “Sweet Lorraine” here always cracks me up.
“The Complete Capitol Four Freshmen Fifties Sessions” Mosaic Records cd IX
Love the guy holding a cigarette. Classic!
These guys were classic. . . this disc is their live album and it’s a lot of fun. “Sweet Lorraine” sung in the voice of Donald Duck is pretty funny.
Many jazz fans like to make fun of them but the Four Freshmen were quite accomplished and in the great Capitol sound their albums are interesting listens.
