A standout solo album from Marilyn Crispell, Live in San Francisco. The piece Dear Lord is worth a repeat listen. Marilyn will be playing with a quartet featuring Jason Stein, Damon Smith, and Alex Shead locally in Madison this Saturday.
A nice somewhat smooth session I picked up because Airto, Flora Purim and Jose Neto are on board. Gary has performed and recorded often with Flora and Airto.

Maria Joao may be an acquired taste for some but she’s an excellent singer and easy for me to enjoy because she reminds me strongly of a Brazilian Blossom Dearie, and over the decades I have become quite a Blossom Dearie fan.

Thelonious Monk “The Classic Quartet” Candid cd 2023
After waffling I decided to order this new cd even though I do have a budget early cd of this in storage. This new remaster certainly would sound better than that cd in a side by side comparison. And it’s a great performance.
On the same day in Tokyo the Monk Quartet did this tv show performance, and a concert released by Columbia/Sony as a 2 disc set. The latter is stereo, this TV performance was recorded in mono.
