Jobim, with the “Banda Nova”–I love these later works with this band of friends and family that happily toured the world.

The Pan - Afrikan Peoples Arkestra Live at the I.U.C.C. is most worthy, especially for Horace Tapscott fans. I too look forward to the next release due out soon. Earlier copies from the series are sold out, but for those that may wish to pick a copy up, there was one at Dusty Groove yesterday.

As it was sitting out for a planned late night listen that wasn’t to be, it ended up as today’s first listen. Steve Swell Sometimes the Air Is.

This is probably not a popular opinion, but I really like this work.

I Ain’t Living Long Like This … rowdy

A fine trio set featuring Paul Bley, Barry Altschul, and Mark Levinson. The latter going on to create Mark Levinson Electronics.

Right now, to start the day, some Jobim music. Drummerless reed and brass orchestra. . . very nice.

Stephane Spira “Round About Jobim” Jazzmax cd

Stéphane Spira : saxophones soprano et ténor
Lionel Belmondo : saxophone ténor et flûte
Philippe Gauthier : flûte
Bernard Burgun : cor anglais
Cécile Hardouin : basson
Thomas Savy : clarinettes
François Christin : cor
Fabien Wallerand : tuba
Sylvain Romano : contrebasse
Glenn Ferris : trombone

Some very calm and impressionistic interpretations of great compositions. I will never tire of Jobim and adventurous treatments of his music. What a musical mind he had!

A recent reissue I picked up at Dusty Groove while in Chicago, reminds me very slightly of Charles Mingus, but with the addition of electronics.

Really enjoying the music of Orrin Evans this year. This one is about five years into his 26 year or so career, nice compositions.

Mal Waldron Trio Free at Last an early German pressing ECM LP I picked up in my college days. Solid support from the rhythm section Isla Eckinger and Clarence Becton.

Antonio Carlos Jobim and Banda Nova “Familia” Som Livre cd (also issued as “Amazonas”)

Almost 20 years after the masterwork “Matita Pere” Tom and his band of friends and family revisit much of the material in condensed new arrangements. The production and mix by Jacques Morelenbaum are part of the unique, dense sound this one has, and the four lovely singers in the chorus bring an extra alluring texture. A good one indeed for a rainy Sunday morning.

Especially enjoy Aldo Ciccolini’s piano renditions.

Well, at least there’s a break in the snow. It will be back later today.

Really enjoying revisiting this one. Keith Jarrett “Treasure Island” Impulse/UMG reissue LP 2016

Got this for a bargain price, replacing a worn out OG.

This has always been a favorite Jarrett Impulse, and all it really needs is more Sam Brown–wish he were on all tracks here.

@Lonson we think alike this Monday morning. I placed Keith Jarrett Trio Still Live on the spinner this morning. It seems this Trio just fits in any morning. Enjoyed disc one so much I continued with disc two, glued to my listening seat.

EDIT: I believe I shall follow-up with Treasure Island, either my original Impulse 1974 release or a Japanese 1981 reissue.
