First music of the day

Felt like dark music today… possibly the darkest death-haunted music written in the entire classical repertoire.

In glorious DSD256 and recorded in DSD256 (mixed in DXD).

Got to sneak in an hour. . . Listening to “Time out of Mind” in anticipation of “Fragments” arriving this afternoon (which I probably won’t get a chance to listen to til Monday).

Just after I posted the mailman showed up with the “Fragments, Bootleg Series Vol. 17” set. Listened to the remix of the original album. I really love this album, and the original mix is one I love and know very well. This new remix is very good–a different window into this majestic work.

Roon created an Ólafur Arnalds mix for me this morning and it was perfect

The Quietus | Reviews | Oxbow & Peter Brötzmann.

Probably an odd way to kick off a day’s listening, but there it was and I went for it. San Francisco noise-blues Oxbow is joined by German saxophonist Peter Brotzmann on this recent Austrian Trost Records release Oxbow & Peter Brotzmann - An Eternal Reminder of Not Today: Live at Moers. Dark, dense, and plenty of skronk. No caffeine necessary this morning.

A fine release, and an exceptional way to start one’s day. I assume this was motivated by this mornings NPR piece on Sakamoto. Regardless, his music is well worth seeking out.

It was NPR. What caught my attention was the comments about a study in silence. I listen to a good bit of music during the day while working. That statement was the best way I’ve heard to describe what I listen to frequently. I have a tag in Roon labeled “Meditative”.

Ooh. Could we get a peek?

This seems fun. For the last few days my first song has been this, then I repeat it a couple times:

Sure, I will export a table. It will be later.

A fan of Brian Eno’s ambient works, and maybe Gavin Bryars as well?

I do have both, now looking at that list I posted I need to go through my library and do some more tagging. I think I’ll try to do some of that this evening. I need to do something mindless tonight, I haven’t been sleeping very well lately, maybe doing some housekeeping will dull my mind a bit.
