First music of the day

I’ve been on a Bill Frisell kick lately. This one is a hoot. All the guitar standards from the 60s and early 70s. Doesn’t sound like that would be a good thing but it really is.

This one is offered in 24 bit on Qobuz. The album posted above is 16 bit on Qobuz and, while sounding pretty good, this one really demonstrates how much better a 24 bit recording can sound.

Tina Brooks “True Blue” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD

David Murray Quartet I Want to Talk About You, with John Hicks, Ray Drummond, and Ralph Peterson Jr. recorded live at Boston’s Charlie’s Tap. The second track on side A, Ray Drummund’s Quad features David on bass clarinet. Being a sucker for the tonality of the instrument this track is a standout.

Grachan Moncur III “Evolution” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD

Alto Saxophone – Jackie McLean
Bass – Bob Cranshaw
Drums – Anthony Williams
Trombone, Written-By – Grachan Moncur III
Trumpet – Lee Morgan
Vibraphone – Bobby Hutcherson

An all-star session. Not one of my very favorites, but the sound on this UHQCD is excellent.

Duke Ellington’s Spacemen “The Cosmic Scene” HDTT cdr

What great instrumentaion and a great blend of jazz elements including a Chicago Style feel at points (to my ears). This transfer from a Columbia reel-to-reel is very nice. I also have an OG mono LP of this, and the stereo cd from Mosaic. Nice to rotate the three in listening when I do play this.
