First music of the day

Took a while to get cool last night! But it is pleasant now. I’ll enjoy the cool while I can–it is due to be scorching this week.

Starting off with a box set I pulled from the back row of one shelf.

The Complete Riverside Recordings of Bill Evans, cd 4

Trio with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian, and part of the Quartet with Cannonball Adderley, Percy Heath and Connie Kay. Early digital, remastered by George Horn, sounding quite nice.

John Dougan sums it up nicelyAn energetic and firey beginning to what will be a scorcher of a day, Hal Russel NRG Ensemble The Finnish/Swiss Tour. I need to turn this up for the neighbor’s benefit!

Beautiful sound and top-shelf packaging.

I agree on the sonics for Sonny Rollins Go West!, the packaging is preferred over the “ginormous” boxes MoFi and Analog Productions are using.

A most fine listen.

Hot last night. . . we didn’t sleep as well as we’d like. Have to get used to it!

Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass – Rashaan Carter
Drums, Percussion – Rudy Royston
Piano, Electric Piano – Theo Hill

Followed by

Tom Harrell “Sail Away” Contemporary cd

Tom Harrell continues to amaze me with the variety of his writing and arranging and the personal vision of his music.

Trying to beat the heat and losing unfortunately. That said the first two discs of this Helen Merrill box set are helping to take my mind off the heat.

This one again to start the morning. Got to sleep in a bit more. . . Fiona the dachshund slept longer than usual.

Duke Ellington “Copenhagen 1958 (Bonus: After Hours 1950)” Storyville cd

No a/c?

We don’t have central AC. I have a loud window unit that I can run. . .but I don’t run it while I’m listening to music here. . .it is way too loud. So I run it on and off during the day and at night. . . but it’s silent when music is on.

I lived in central Texas for 33 years, and I was quite poor about the first third of that time and I learned how to sleep and work and ride (only had a motorcycle) in all kinds of heat (and cold). I can enjoy listening up here when it is far too uncomfortable for fellow Ohioans. But my Ohio dachshund and listening companion (she has to be with me ALL THE TIME) can only take so much. Pretty soon we’ll go downstairs where it’s cooler and Lucinda may be getting up soon.
