With Ira Sullivan on tenor!

Attended a listening session last night with Michael Fremer and Patrick Leonard.
Played on a million bazillion dollar system it sounded pretty good.
Wine was most excellent.
Look at the size of that shnoz! I sneezed and they had to reposition the speakers.

Impex. This sounds really good although not the quietest vinyl.

It’s a really good sounding session. . . sounds really good on my Mosaic cd set of Shank’s Pacific Jazz quartet recordings.

Neil Young “Tuscaloosa” Reprise cd

This is sortof an alternate “Time Fades Away”. . . recorded on the same tour. This tour was the only one that I ever attended of Young’s.

My dachshund listening partner is sleepy this morning. After a day of rain there’s a still, cool feel to this morning and sitting in front of the stereo is a great way to start the day.

Now playing

Oh, what a beautiful morning. Looking forward to a brunch we will have with my sister-in-law Bridget and her husband Dan. My favorite in-laws. Don’t tell the others.

Starting off wtih a great listen.

Billy Valentine “And the Universal Truth” Flying Dutchman cd

Billy Valentine sings, with Jeff Parker on guitar, Larry Goldings on Fender Rhodes, Pino Palladino on bass, and Joel Ross on vibes, Immanuel Wilkins on alto sax et al.

I found this because Immanuel Wilkins and Joel Ross are here, and I always seek them out. Very good disc!

Lee Morgan Taru Blue Note Tone Poet LP reissue. The sound is most fine, and the performance is interesting, a bit more exploratory than what I’d expect from Lee Morgan. George Benson, and Bernie Maupin standout with John Hicks, Bily Higgins, and Reggie Workman.

Will be catching Immanuel Wilkins tomorrow at Chicago’s Hyde Park Jazz Festival. Looking forward to it. Strong line-up once again this year.
