FR 30 in da house

Thanks for the review and all the great pictures! I am very excited for Round 2 deliveries!! I am expecting big things, especially after your and Paul’s comments. Amazing in your small room, room not much of an issue. Can’t wait to see how they do in a bigger room - 15x21

According to the PSA dudes that have rooms or have listened to them in rooms sized like yours, they sound
even better. I am relegated to the basement for domestic tranquility.

Iconoclast series 1 and 2 speaker cables. Well done sir!

In spite of the various photos on your thread and another thread, I remain confused about the speaker connections. Are there two sets of connections on the bottom cabinet and what happens at the top - is there a link from the top of the bottom cabinet to the top cabinet - does each cabinet have its own crossover in it?.

Dang they look good in there Straighwire! Thanks for the posts! I got the lowdown from Chris and Paul yesterday about the whole trip. They both mentioned how thrilled there were with how they sounded in a smaller room. Most of the listening tests inside the factory and at a few employee houses have been in larger rooms, so this was a really helpful case study for all of us. Thanks for everything SW!!

Yes, each cab has its own crossover inside. The bottom of the speaker has the LF and HF terminals. The HF terminal connects to a cable internal which runs to the top of the cab. The way Straightwaire has them hooked up here circumvents the HF terminal at the bottom and the jumper. The way they’re hooked up here is the most direct connection.

Way to go

Thanks James, that is what I thought was the case. D.

Are these black? they look really good! congrats again! Looking forward for further impressions as they break-in. You have the full PS Audio stack so this is what Paul and co design these system to sound like. Enjoy!

PSA designates the color as black but the cabinets are dark grey. The grills are black. I like the grey. Seems more tech and less imposing than something darker.

Sable Black, me thinks.

This is so good to hear, and meets my expectations. I can’t wait to see the video. Well done to @Paul and @Chris_Brunhaver for the setup, it’s a lovely touch.

Congratulations on the new speakers. They look gorgeous in that colour!

happy for you, everything sounds impressive with setup and such

Fabulous.

Speakers look fantastic!!
The entire room looks great too!!

I found reviews of the M700 and M1200 on this forum to be way more descriptive than that of several professional publications, as the main focus of the descriptions here are focused on the sound (particularly between the M700 and M1200) without having to focus on other setup items that a professional reviewer has to, plus the continual updates as others purchase them. I know the same will be true with the FR-30

I like a tidy setup and also like to build my own stuff when I can, such as the bass traps, skyline diffusers, shelving and remote/drink stand shown. I was a little nervous that my cave was going to be destroyed by Paul and Chris in search of audio nirvana. Luckily, I have less stuff than before.
Just a quick note. I got rid of the gear between the speakers before the FR30s and that, with the diffusers, helped the imaging a lot. I then had the gear on the long wall in the closet area. The PST was then a hit-and-miss when controlled by the remote, and when the FR30 got moved in, the remote was useless with the transport. This forced me to mount the gear in direct line with the remote as shown. Cutting my granite slabs and mounting them for gear shelves got done a day before P and C arrived. With all that, my biggest fear was I would pop an SR fuse when I fired everything up. Audio madness.

They do make repeaters for remotes that can relay the signal to a closet or closed cabinet if it would help your setup.

A question regarding the color. They are described as black, but especially on the first pictures you took, they look dark grey compared to the black bass drivers and the black metal stands. Does it look like that live?
