I was assembling the FR30’s and have a M/T top that does not fit. The first top unit was a little sticky but I got it in position. The second unit slides to about 1.5 inches from the front but no further. I tried to remove it to try again but it is stuck. I did not force it so that’s not the problem. Has anyone removed a top unit, any suggestions?
Have you contacted your PSA sales rep?
Yes, just now sent an email.
Goodluck…
Thanks, here’s hoping PSA can help.
The top is a bit sticky to install. It took me a couple try to slide in, and they fit fine, but I have not tried remove them yet. Hopefully I will not need to. I did have an issue with the front baffles. They did not stay in place because they were a bit long. PSA replaced mine with a new set and I had no more issues.
I imagine they are heavy and cumbersome. I hope PS Audio can give you some helpful tips for install.
I was able to remove the top with a lot of pulling and very small twists. I positioned it carefully and pushed forward. It went just a little more and stuck again. I managed to remove it.
I think the problem is the “bracket” sliders are defective, they are just too tight. I checked for debris in the sliders but there was none. I then noticed some scuffing on the cabinet ridges where the top and bottom faces meet about 2 inches from the front. This is where the two cabs are getting stuck. They are being pulled together either because the sliders are are out of whack or because the cabinet edge tolerances were out there.
So either the slider or the cabinet needs to be modified. Maybe the slider fasteners could be loosened a little. Otherwise (and I really don’t want to do this) one or both cabinet edges could be sanded down a bit. These are facing edges inside the seam between top and bottom so it likely would not show. Rock and a hard place.
Maybe a bit of paraffin would be in order…?
I am not personally familiar with the speakers but I surmise they are supposed to be a pretty tight fit when attaching the tops to the bottoms.
Do you have a second pair of hands to help you? I am also wondering if the top needs to be kept pretty parallel with the bottom while sliding into place and it might take two to dance this Tango.
Good luck in any event and I hope you keep us posted on your listening experience once you are past this bit of frustration.
Cheers.
I would not be sanding my new 30K speakers.
If you do manage to fit them together you’ll probably never get them apart again.
I would ask for new speakers.

Looks like they should slide together fairly easily. Any chance you are installing front to back instead of back to front?
Good luck to you.
Sliding from back to front as Chris does at this timestamp: https://youtu.be/YrpYAMfB318?t=418 looks like they slide easily.
Yes they should slide easily. The first did install easily, but the other one begins easily then gets progressively harder and gets stuck about 2” short of the front of the woofer unit. I am pretty sure it is a problem with the brackets. I talked to PSA and they are leaning in that direction as well.
Glad you got in contact with them. Frustrating nonetheless I’m sure. Thanks for keeping us posted and being patient with my less than helpful observations ![]()
No I did not reverse it, my dyslexia is not that bad yet.
I installed the first one with no difficulty, the second one had my number. PSA is on it and will get back to me tomorrow, it should be resolved soon.
Yes, getting them apart was a big concern so I was careful not to force anything. (Sanding the cabinet was a joke.) PSA now knows and said they will make it right.
Hah!
I am suffering with you from afar. Nothing more disappointing than having your Christmas morning postponed, so to speak…
Thanks. Nothing I can do at the moment so just focusing on other things. I’ll hear from PSA tomorrow and go from there.
PSA say they test the speakers before shipping (mentioned in a video). The tops look the same from what I can see in videos, i.e. no serial # or L/R marking, so maybe they were tested using the tops on the other bases.
Update - if the tops are swapped and the issue remains the same it should tell you whether it’s the bass cabinet or the upper cabinet that’s causing the problem.
The top and bottom do have matching serial numbers, the instructions say to pair them based on that.
Talking to PSA we decided to swap the top units. It was getting late last night so I haven’t done that yet, first thing to do this morning. I suspect that the brackets (one or both) are too far recessed into the cabinets at one front corner; the top swap will likely show that.
