Am wondering about the FR30s for sale at TMR - how hard did they have to get hit for the black lacquer to chip? or did they fall over? and would that sort of impact not habe an effect on the performance? any non-interested-party insights? could the blemish be hidden somehow?
Are you saying there’s a chip on this pair? I didn’t see it in the photos. $800 for shipping to find out.
Yes, click through the pics… small, and there are blemishes as well
“Cosmetic Description: Good cosmetic condition with some minor visible cosmetic wear including some scuffs on passive radiators on the side of one speaker, but these are only cosmetic and do not affect the sound or performance. There are a few minor scuffs around the baffle edges of both speakers as…”
I see the scuffs which can probably be buffed with a good dual action polisher and some compound. If that is missing paint in the one pic a good car paint guy could take care of that. A chip will be more of a challenge.
I see no chips but scuffs as shown and indicated. The speaker covers are replaceable as well.
Images 9, 10, and 11 from the TMR website show top coat paint missing. Also, there appears to be minor blemishes in the top coat on image 9. Blemishes/rubs on the passive drivers as well. I’d need to see them in person before making a purchase decision. If you wish to save some cash get the FR20 NIB with full warranty. These have either had a rough life or some shipping/assembly damage. The posted images aren’t the greatest quality either.
that’s good advice - new fr20s likely a better move - thanks
If you can get a good deal working with PS on a price for new. $35k and when are they coming back in stock? Patience will pay off I guess.
It’s hard to tell, cuz while there is def a scuff along the top edge what could be reading as a chip in the paint in the corner might also just be the reflection of lamps they are using to take the photos. Anyone seriously considering them I’m sure they would have no issues sending further photos to clarify.
True, and in the past it’s been my experience that they are very careful in describing any and all damage - so it’s unlikely a chip in the finish. Even if I had the money, I couldn’t get these things upstairs into my small listening room. The FR10’s were almost too heavy for a one man crew.
Price just lowered to $15,599. Any potential buyer is certain to call to get the full story. The rest here is speculation. As I said if I were to consider buying them I’d personally inspect them and audition them at TMR. The potential savings likely offsetting any travel costs. Still they appear to have had a hard life, and any purchase consideration should include an in person demo. Thus limiting the potential market.
That is good advice for something of this price range, and the cost of sending these things back is nothing to sneeze at.
