RIP Garth Hudson. We lost a giant and a musical genius.
Time for a bit of Cripple Creek
And… “Tears of Rage”, “In a Station”, “I Shall Be Released”…Okay I really love “Music from Big Pink”. Jericho also has a couple of real beauties with “The Caves of Jericho” and “Too Soon Gone”.
Was never exposed to them in high school. Turns out my college roommate was a dead head and opened my world to a lot of music from “jam bands”
He had an extensive music collection on cassette, I brought my system, vinyl and some cd’s (the lasted craze at the time) to the party…
Listening to The Band reminds me of good times with good people
The Last Waltz, for a great group

Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson and Levon Helm were really something special.
Music from Big Pink spinning now. Timeless!
EDIT: also love Jason Isbell’s tune from Drive By Truckers “Dirty South” Danko/Manuel. Someone apparently said Isbell sounded just like Danko. Not sure he took that as a compliment.
Just played Chest Fever LOUD in his honor…
For many years I joked that you never saw him and Johannes Brahms together. Guess it’s time to retire that joke. RIP Garth.
For a moment ( and I say this with positive intent ) they captured a particular musical zeitgeist.
Jason Isbell is a treasure. A poet, a storyteller, a compassionate human being and a still growing musician.
