General CD sale question/advice needed

I had ripped all of my CD’s to my NAS so I wasn’t using them and 5 years later dont miss them.

I did the same thing with my ~300 piece record collection except I didn’t rip them as they had already been replaced with CD’s or purchased files.
I also got $1.00 to $1.50 each for the records. I had given my TT away to a forum member hereand dont miss the LP’s either.

Makes perfect sense. When I got deep into CDs in the 90’s it was for the jazz reissues that were most scarce on vinyl, Blue Notes, Savoy, Dial, Contemporary, etc. With the current quality of vinyl reissues those CDs are seldom considered for listening sessions. The rest of my CD collection represents obscure performances not available in any other form, including streaming. So for that alone CDs have a special place in my world.

Agree with almost all points, for years I though of my CD collection as a nuisance, moving it from state to state in my 30s and at a point I realized that I haven’t even opened the boxes in 3 or 4 years. Upon a move from Detroit to Chicago I decided to do a ‘down sizing’ (seems laughable now, the stuff I got rid of compared to what I kept, guess that’s perspective).

If you’re at least curious I would suggest giving one of Cambridge Audios cd players a chance. Couple years ago I bought a Cambridge AXC-35 open box from Cambridge and it sounds fantastic paired with my GCD, Like I said above really emphasized my regret. I maybe only listen to CDs a couple times a month I especially enjoy listening on Headphones.

Anyway, if anyone is looking to ‘give away’ any CDs/Vinyls or equipment I’d be a happy recipient:wink::wink::wink:

Teetering on the edge of CD divesture myself. Rarely do I use a CD these days except in the car. My listening is usually vinyl or streaming. Was thinking about a donation to the local library - if they still have CD’s for people to check out.

Of course, all ripped copies will be deleted upon the sale of the physical CDs, yes?

That’s my practice, but it’s not common practice among those I know who sell their discs.

Legally blah blah blah.

Out of respect for the musicians and others who bring music to us.

But if you need legality to act ethically there is that, too.

Makes sense though I’ve never ripped a CD. I did the get the hang of ripping phone books back in high school and gee the girls loved it.

Sooo–I kept around 50 in case I go nuts and buy a Jay’s. And the rest I gave to my nephew. He’s over the moon.
